Pocket Carry of Small Caliber Handguns
Received this from the Virginia Shooting Sports Association (VSSA) newsletter
Concealing a substantial handgun on your person is not easy. It requires forethought
and commitment. While concealed means out of sight, if your piece prints through
your clothing, it is not out of sight, but instead is a clue that you are carrying.
You may not be breaking any laws when your firearm prints through your clothing,
but you have just given up the element of surprise which is the reason to carry
concealed. So, what do you do if it is difficult at best to effectively conceal
a handgun on your hip or inside your waist band?
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Likewise, a gun in your pocket is worth
two or more at home. Therefore, a little .22 LR pistol in your pocket is worth more
to you from the standpoint of personal defense on the street than is a big .45 left
at home. So, if the only way you can conveniently carry a gun is to carry a small
caliber handgun in your pocket, do so, and go forth armed even if the little gun
in your pocket is what some folks call a "mouse gun". The good news is that nowadays,
there are more choices of quality pocket guns than ever and more pocket holsters
for those guns to choose from.

KelTec PF-9 for me. P-3AT would fit better in front/rear pockets, but the 9 fits just fine in cargo pockets.

I am eyeing the Kahr CM9, though it might still be a little too big for pocket carry especially if you tend to wear jeans without spacious front pockets.

Hopefully it's less of a piece of crap than their .380.ProShooter wrote:Wait 'til the Diamondback DB9 hits the mainstream. You heard it here first.

Rohrbaugh 9s is my flavor
Re: Pocket Carry of Small Caliber Handguns
My winter time back up gun used to be my Ruger SS speed six with the hammer spur removed. It fit great in my jacket pocket and I never really knew it was there. One HKS speed loader in my left jacket pocket gave me 12 rounds for the back up if for some reason the service pistol had issues.
Summertime back up gun was a small .22 semi auto (name excapes me right now, cheap but it never had issues on the range during the 4 years I carried it and practiced with it. The gun was in my left shirt pocket kind of behind/under the badge/badge support and the spare magazine was in my left front pants pocket.
These days if I carry its the 1911. I also choose not to go to places like Richmond, VA where neither the populace nor the police department respects the rights of other citizens. Heck, if it weren't for work I wouldn't hardly go off my property.

Trigger likes the Bodyguard (forget who makes it). Targeting as her next gun. Its a .380. Anybody have one?

I have the S&W BodyGuard 380 and it is in fact, my CC weapon for Summertime. Carry it in front my pocket with a MIKA holster, no printing at all and the gun comes out clean, holster stays in the pocket on the draw.

This. I got one a few weeks ago, it fits right in my cargo pants pocket, and it feeds 124gr +p ammo. Not reliable with the 147s, though. I'm having problems finding a pocket holster for it locally.meak99 wrote:KelTec PF-9 for me. P-3AT would fit better in front/rear pockets, but the 9 fits just fine in cargo pockets.

I typically carry a 9mm OWB, but do pocket carry a S&W 642 Airweight in .38 Special. I really like the trigger on the Ruger LCR, tho...
Re: Pocket Carry of Small Caliber Handguns
I used to have (and carried) a little Desert Eagle micro .380 that was a nice little shooter and it concealed really nice it a front pant pocket. I regret getting rid of that gun.
Anyone have one?,(like dislike?)

Re: Pocket Carry of Small Caliber Handguns
If you're going to carry in your pocket make sure you inspect/clean it frequently to remove the dirt, dry skin, pocket lint that build up on anything in your pants pockets. You might also want to consider some type of finish that doesn't require much lube as the lube will spot the material either giving away that you have something in your pocket or just staining your pants.
Re: Pocket Carry of Small Caliber Handguns
Taurus pt709 slim 9mm fits just fine in the pocket. waistband carry is irritating....or I'm just getting fat. Probably both.
Re: Pocket Carry of Small Caliber Handguns
I have a NAA Black Widow with replaced handgrips so it has a pocket clip on it. Even in tight clothes no one will ever know its on you. Its my preferred backup/summer carry by far.

I own 2 LCP's. Great piece especially for what you can get one for these days.
