Need a rifle rest

Post by CrackerKorean »

The wife bought a Savage bolt action 22 and wants to shoot it. I joined LGC which have nice cement benches but she needs some kind of rest for the gun.

We have been looking at bipods and some of the more expensive Caldwell bench rests. But being a 22 and her/our first rife I think the bench rest is a bit overkill. We were looking at some rests (bag style) but not really sure what to get or not to etc etc.

Any suggestions? Would the bench rest be too much to start?

A Caldwell TackDriver bag should be just the ticket for a .22 rifle

I have one of the generic bags from walmart but it's to short so I have to build a little support platform. Get one that sits nice and high and it should be just fine for causal shooting.

Definitely go with shooting bags over a big honkin' rest for light use.

I was speaking with a friend and found out he has a Harris sitting around that he was not using. He was supposed to send it out today, hopefully itl be here by the weekend.

I was looking at the fillable bags and was wondering if you guys knew where to get poly pellets.

Use plastic BB's, which are sold at any sporting goods store.

Or lead shot if you want a sturdier bag to shoot on.

Plastic BBs as in airsoft BBs?
The poly pellets are more dense so it would be a sturdier bag but not as heavy as one with lead shot. They are the beads used in beanie baby type things. Have some weight and density but not too much.

Try the local hobby shops or arts/crafts store. Tell them you're looking for fake critter stuffings.
