Well golly-gee... with the craptastic economy, high unemployment, and the Occupy ________ protests going on, it's little wonder that law-abiding citizens feel the need to protect themselves. My guess is that the 26% in favor of banning guns must live next door to the local police station or something.

Record-Low 26% in U.S. Favor Handgun Ban
Support for stricter gun laws in general is lowest Gallup has measured
by Jeffrey M. Jones
PRINCETON, NJ -- A record-low 26% of Americans favor a legal ban on the possession of handguns in the United States other than by police and other authorized people. When Gallup first asked Americans this question in 1959, 60% favored banning handguns. But since 1975, the majority of Americans have opposed such a measure, with opposition around 70% in recent years.
The results are based on Gallup's annual Crime poll, conducted Oct. 6-9. This year's poll finds support for a variety of gun-control measures at historical lows, including the ban on handguns, which is Gallup's longest continuing gun-control trend.

Re: Record-low 26% in U.S. favor handgun ban
Since it's creeping into so many discussions, I'd like to propose a convention for referring to the "Occupy _____" phenomenon. (or, as Kreutz might say, coin a meme) As I posted previously, the _____ means "Fill In the Blank". So I propose that it will be easier to just call it "Occupy FIB". That seems appropriate to me not just because it is an acronym for Fill In the Blank, but also because a colossal FIB is what that phenomenon and its endorsement by Obama, unions, and/or other socialist and communist organizations amounts to.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

The bolded part is why it will be hard to do what you propose. I'm generalizing, but left-wing movements generally are truer to "grass roots" than conservative ones, which are typically funded and organized from a top down system....you can say the Tea Party is decentralized all day long, but the truth is it actually has a pretty clear money trail despite the efforts of various PACs to hide it....and as well know he who controls the purse strings controls the power.
The myriad Occupy _____ are so amorphous they will defy a neat label or categorization that can be succinct enough for a meme.
As an aside I actually caught a "spokesman" (they avoid terms like "leader" for Occupy Roanoke on NPR (yeah, I listen to NPR, seriously shocked?) today and his personal view was we should push for a return to the one term citizen statesmen...something I think actually all of us would agree on.
On topic I think people are just so beaten down from all the other asinine "wars"...be it the "war on drugs" or the "war on poverty" people are just starting to realize bans do jack **** anyway and they'd better arm up too. Probably just pragmatism.

FTW. CORRECT! Taking away people's choices when you're calling out for more choices for yourself just seems childish anyway. People CAN have EXTREME differences, but when you focus on what you have in COMMON, then you find the ability to actually LIKE those folks.
THAT is what America is missing today. Common Ground. And, for the record. I like NPR as well. Glass is a GENIUS, and cracks me up.

You're on the right track, but we beat you to it. "Teatards" and "teabaggers" works because it uses the name so its instantly related to the tea party. The Occupy ____ doesn't use "party" anywhere so it would cause confusion. It has to have or relate to "Occupy" in it to be a good meme.Diomed wrote:I'm partial to "Flea Party" myself.dorminWS wrote:Since it's creeping into so many discussions, I'd like to propose a convention for referring to the "Occupy _____" phenomenon.

Something like "Crapupiers" is workable, but it reads weird. Maybe "Crackupiers" to insinuate theyre all crackheads?
Keep tryin!

OK, I'll play along........
How about "Occupy @ssholes"?
(1) they've all got one.
(2) they all act like one
(3) by now they MUST all smell like one
(4) certainly, there is a strong relationship between them
(5) and last but not least, if most of them get their way, that's what the USA will shortly become:...... the @sshole of creation.
My apologies to all moderators. Sometimes, only certain words will do. I'll strive to stay on a higher plane in the future.

No, I think it works, since the Occupy bunch is a downmarket ripoff of the Tea Party. Calling them the Flea Party drives the point home.Kreutz wrote:You're on the right track, but we beat you to it.
