New XDm Range Results

I picked up a new XDm 9mm sat from a great dealer that advertises here - dk148.

I took my new 9mm to the NRA range this afternoon, to run a few rounds through her. All targets were at 7yrds, using 115gr FMJ Remington. The target on the upper left is the first 50 rounds through her. Slow fire, tried to focus on front sight and trigger squeeze, and see just how it was sighted in (sight was more like a 6 o'clock hold at 7 yrds). The target on the upper right was the second 50 rnds, tried to follow up with quicker second shots. Grouping not quite as good, but all on paper and only about 3 or so out of the black. The bottom target was the 3rd 50 rounds, practicing drawing (for IDPA) with first 2 shots fairly quick, brought pistol down to middle of chest to rest, then back up for 2 more shots at a different dot, etc till empty, then did mag change with retention. All in all, for the first outing with her, I am very pleased with it. I know I have some work to do, but I really love this gun.

Looks like that new pistol shoots pretty straight. Nice shooting! You shoot IDPA at the NRA range or somewhere else? Several people have asked about IDPA here.

My mistake, I thought he had a post on the classified, but doesnt look like it. I found him on vaguntrader.com.

I'm new to IDPA, only shot one club match, but looking to try more. I think the only ranges in the area that hosts IDPA matches are Blue Ridge and Silver Eagle Group. I think there are others, but you'll have to drive aways. They are listed on the IDPA site.

I too just got an XDm 9 and really like it.

It's my first venture into "tupperware",but am impressed with Springfield Armory and Croatian design. Way better than a "Block"...

I got the special Grip Tape done by XDm Lapeer on the XD Talk forums and it made all the difference in the world.
You should try em out mate.

Stix, that tape really makes it look even sexier. Nice job. I may have to look into the tape.

I have large hands, and so far havent experimented with the other backstraps. When I have some free time, and feeling brave, I'll try swapping them out to see what the difference is.

I have had my XDm 40 for a couple of months now. Its my first pistol that I have owned. For some reason I am all over the place when I shoot mine. Most of the time, I end up pulling a little high and to the right at 10 yards. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

From what I've read from the XDtalk.com forum and from personal experience, the XD for some reason is really, really, sensitive to trigger pull. If you dont have good trigger pull discipline, it will show up in your target results. Do a lot of dry firing with snap caps, and watch what your front sight does, you'll probably see it move around a lot. Your free hand grip also makes a BIG difference. Here's a couple of great videos on grip.

I've looking very hard at 1 of these and get my 1st tupperware gun. I can't come to terms with Glock, damn things feel like I'm grabbing a brick. XDM feels closer to 1911.

If you've been shooting the same ammo you may also want to try some different. Some guns are particular in that regard.

Yes nice chart. I've actually seen that chart at A&P Arms. I am working on my loads. I have been shooting 165gr TMJ bullets at 3.6 grains of Hodgdon Clays. What would be better, a heavier bullet or lighter one? I know that guns may be picky but is there a common rule of thumb?

The load data Im using is for a JHP not TMJ or plated bullet so I started at 2.9 which is a hair over 10% lower than the starting charge of 3.4 grains. Im now at 3.6 with a max of 3.9 according to the book. My sierra book goes up to 5.2gr. Of course Im using Ranier bullets. I was told when using jacketed data for plated bullets, to subtract 10% from the starting load. Does anybody here reload. Sorry I am hijacking this thread. I will quit asking questions through this thread. Thanks for the replies.

Regarding plated bullets I've read that you should use the same data as you do for lead and not push them towards the hotter end otherwise accuracy suffers. I dont load plated and havent tried them due to mixed reviews. For reloading I stick with FMJ unless they arent available. And as a rule I never load for carry - only plinking at the range.

I'd follow Henry's advice. Try different weights with varying charges and keep records.

Plated was all I could find at the time. I could not find 165gr lead reload data. I know Bobs has has 155 FMJs.

I use ranier plated 180 gr. in my .40 cal. Glock and don't have any problems at the max charge and never did in my .45's 44 Mags. Etc.
From the look of the target's that you posted I would have to say that it is not the load it is in fact you looking at the target as the shot break's and looking over the sight's.
