Obama pulls references to Islam from terror training

Deputy U.S. Attorney General James Cole confirmed on Wednesday that the Obama administration was pulling back all training materials used for the law enforcement and national security communities, in order to eliminate all references to Islam that some Muslim groups have claimed are offensive.

“I recently directed all components of the Department of Justice to re-evaluate their training efforts in a range of areas, from community outreach to national security,” Cole told a panel at the George Washington University law school.

The move comes after complaints from advocacy organizations including the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and others identified as Muslim Brotherhood front groups in the 2004 Holy Land Foundation terror fundraising trial.

In a Wednesday Los Angeles Times op-ed, Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) president Salam al-Marayati threatened the FBI with a total cutoff of cooperation between American Muslims and law enforcement if the agency failed to revise its law enforcement training materials.

Maintaining the training materials in their current state “will undermine the relationship between law enforcement and the Muslim American community,” al-Marayati wrote.

They are so PC that I would say they have their heads in the sand, but really I think it is some place much smellier and dark. Hello--if the broad vast majority of terrorists believe they are doing it in the name of the Muslim God--then Islam is relevant. Why is it that our gov't officials are the most foolish and ignorant among us?

I dunno about you, but I feel a lot more safe knowing that if a man jumps up in my plane screaming "Allah Akbar!", the air marshall will know better than to overreact and treat him like a terrorist.

LOL, chances are the Air Marshall will have to protect the idiot from the rest of the passengers if he does that.

Happily the passengers of the planes know enough to know that air marshals don't protect them 90% of the time. It is up to the passengers themselves. So we are much less likely to have another 9-11 or anything of the sort these days.

A PC move or a realistic assessment that not all terrorists are Muslim and they don't want law enforcement to be myopic and thus handicapped?

My post was simply sarcasm to show how stupid this administration is to remove Islam from terrorism training.

A great number of terrorist attacks have been inspired by Islam. That is a fact that is foolish to ignore, and doing so would be a handicap to law enforcement.

No disagreement there, but to focus exclusively on the Jihad-brigade is as dangerous as ignoring the realistic threat they do pose.

I'm just questioning the motives for the change, not sure if it was just to be PC or not. Incidentally racial profiling works and I support its use.

Indeed. I wouldn't want Islam to be a complete focus, either. Doing that would allow another Timothy McVeigh type to slip right by. As for racial profiling, that works great. I agree.

The Israelis use racial and psych profiling before you board planes, and it seems to work pretty well. I have been subjected to it and it's a lot less offensive than TSA groping, to be honest.
