Ron Paul announces ambitious ‘Plan to Restore America’

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign announced the release of Dr. Paul’s “Plan to Restore America,” an ambitious federal government spending, tax and reform blueprint that as President he will implement.
The plan, authored by Paul’s campaign staff at his direction, promises to restore the federal government to its former Constitutionally-limited, smaller-government and less-burdensome place. The plan cuts $1 trillion in federal spending during the first year of a Paul Presidency and delivers a balanced budget in year three of a Paul Presidency.
“Ron Paul’s plan is the only one that seriously addresses the economic and budgetary problems our nation faces. It cuts $1 trillion in one year, and slashes regulations and taxes so our economy can grow and create jobs,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton, a plan co-author.
“It’s the only plan offered by a presidential candidate that actually balances the budget and begins to pay down the debt. And it’s the only plan being offered that tries to reign in the Federal Reserve and get inflation under control.”
Cuts totaling $1 trillion during the first year of a Paul Presidency would be achieved by eliminating five federal cabinet departments – the Departments of Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, Interior and Education. Cuts of this scale will also be accomplished by a Paul Presidency abolishing the Transportation Security Administration and returning responsibility for security to private property owners, abolishing corporate subsidies, stopping foreign aid, ending foreign wars, and returning most other spending to 2006 levels.

Being that he is hovering around 4th place in most polls, he could promise rainbows and Skittle-pooping unicorns for everyone.
It's almost like the majority of Americans think that he's bat$h!t crazy or something

Probably because so many people in both of the major parties, but especially the Republicans, keep saying that he's bat$h!t crazy. I haven't heard them adequately explain why they think so, though.OakRidgeStars wrote:It's almost like the majority of Americans think that he's bat$h!t crazy or something

Well I don't think he is crazy. I don't like his foreign policy ideas--isolationism at least to the extent that he would call us back to is not practical in today's world. I am not sure what would happen if he cut all those agencies---dunno. Might be worth thinking about though. Of all of them I think he is the most honest. I look at each of them and I don't trust a one of them very far, but Ron Paul I trust the farthest to be honest. Would be a nice change from the BS we have going on now.

It is that way with the whole Republican field. I don't agree with "XYZ" "He/She is just stupid/wrong for that position". I don't like Romney's health care position, I don't like Paul's foreign policy, I don't like Perry's position on immigration, blah, blah, blah.
4 years ago Hillary Clinton was all but crowned the Democratic presidential candidate, we see what happened there. Saying Paul is unelectable would be a mistake, he is after all an elected member of Congress. His supporters are definitely passionate about him.
I don't know how many times I have heard Carl Rove or Larry Sabato offer their "professional opinion" as to how unserious a candidate Herman Cain is. He shouldn't be visiting Tennessee and Texas now, he needs to focus on the early Caucus/ Primary states... Yet every time a poll comes out, a few more Americans have heard him or heard about him, and his numbers are up a little. Maybe, just maybe the professional pundits haven't seen an election like this one. I have a feeling that the Republican party might not have Mr. Romney as the candidate no matter how hard the Democrat friendly media and Republican establishment seem to be pushing him as the only candidate that can beat he President.

You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

I've heard a lot of Republicans say that, but none of them actually know what that term means and how they just misapplied it. It's name calling at it's finest...they have no idea what it means, but their masters told them it was bad and they should fear it and anyone who proposes it (which RP isn't).mamabearCali wrote:isolationism at least to the extent that he would call us back to is not practical in today's world.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isolationism
Dictating the affairs of "satellite nations" whom you deem vital to your own national security is an empire. You can accomplish that through many means; i.e. not all empires are created equal. This would be considered the grand strategy of a nation and ours is undeniably that of empire. That fact in of itself doesn't make our grand strategy wrong, but we should at least discuss what it does mean. Everything has pros and cons, but a huge negative of a grand strategy of empire is that it costs a boat load of money. In fact that very strategy bankrupted many previous empires.
Isolationism is cutting oneself off from other nations in a variety of ways. That's not what RP says he wants to do. In fact he wants more free trade (you don't need NAFTA like agreements for real free trade either); that's the antithesis of isolationism. What he does want to do is use our tax payer dollars at home rather than playing empire abroad. Again, that doesn't mean there is no need for the military or the intelligence community. It's just a change of grand strategy...it's an alternative strategic solution or perspective on the same objectives (i.e. keep Americans and America safe).
Please do explain why you think his policy is "isolationism."

Perhaps I am using the wrong term. However I have heard him reference closing bases in some very key countries around the world that we use as both military and humanitarian stop points to get to where we need to around the world. Specifically I remember hearing him call for the closing of bases in Germany and Japan. We use both of those bases to deal with both humanitarian and military crisis around the world. I have heard him say that Iran is not a threat--ummmm--- yes it is. What happens in Iran/Israel very much affects us here in the US. When a nation says it wants to wipe one of our very best allies off the map--that is a threat to us. Iran would ally with others of our enemies that are much closer to home and if they have nukes they could easily ship them off to Cuba and we have that mess all over again just with a more insane person with their finger on trigger. That is what I strenuously object to in his platform. Look, I like Ron Paul in general, like I said I think he is the most honest of those guys on stage. But his foreign policy scares me.

Ron Paul would go to extremes on a lot of issues. I agree with most of the fiscal and cost-cuting ones. That would dictate some pullback of foreign committments. The thing I like is that he's not afraid to discuss these things.
