You'll probably find more jobs closer to the beltway. And more traffic, and higher prices, and...etc.

yeah Winchester is a bit further from the hub, depending on what sort of jobs you are looking for, though housing costs should be cheaper

I don't know that you need to live in the beltway, but just out of it (centreville, herndon, chantilly etc)
may make sense

I came here from NY myself 8 years ago

love Virginia

had a friend that moved to the area, decided on Winchester... got a job in springfield... 2 hours each way.

Hated life for 2 years till he saved enough to move closer to the beltway.

Winchester is a mid-sized town, but does not have much of a high-tech economy, and he was a UNIX admin and couldn't find a IT job out there that didn't pay a pittance.

There are very few higher education jobs in Winchester, the wife will have a MUCH easier time around the beltway.

Hey Riposite / proshooter --where in NY are you from ?

My reason for staying further from DC is that cost will be less and I hear traffic is a joke -like 1 hr commutes to work just to travel a few miles.

Im a jack of all trades from Welder to Aircraft re-fueler and rental center manager.. Tyhe wife likes to do TAX preparation and there is a university in Winchester

I want enough land to shoot on and maby hunt -besides I want a place where we can have meet and shoots =! - :ak47:

Hey Randy, shoot a PM to KaosDad. He runs a job recruiting business.

He just might know of a employer looking for someone with your skills.

Good luck :friends:

I'm from Long Island

While DC is no NYC by a long shot, for the most part excepting that communistic car tax, Virginia is a far superior state, especially if you like gun ownership/

Winchester is out there, but there are a few airports around, Dulles is huge and there are lots of airlines obviously. Can't remember the taxes, but they suck. The emissions is strict, they will definitely fail you for having no cats. Out in Winchester though, things may be a little different, you have some more mom'n'pop shops out there. If you need a realtor let me know, I know a great one (my mother). Also check www.mwaa.com for jobs, they own Dulles airport and will have links to the airports that are represented here. There is also a great deal of construction going on the airports so if you have construction experience there may be something there as well. Within about 45 minutes of Winchester there are campuses for Shenandoah University, George Mason University x 2, Virginia Tech, university of Pheonix and Northern VA Community College x 2. Good luck and welcome!

If your vehicle is over 20 years old, they don't do emissions on it, and no car tax, either. Get a job at Dulles Airport, live in Fauquier County. Your wife can do tax stuff? She'll make a killing around here. There's also George Mason University in Fairfax.
