WTF is the price of the encore

My god I've been all over the freaking net looking at sites and dealers but NO ONE has a price for this gun. So WTF???

I might have bought one but dang it if they're going to be that secretive about price F*** em I'll buy a different gun!

OMG! When I worked in a gunstore in the 80's, people bought a T/V Contender to test out a new caliber to see if they wanted a full size rifle in that caliber!

Now?

The full size rifle cost LESS than a T/C!!

Don't know how you went looking for the prices, but I went to google and typed in "t/c encore frames" first hit gave me 10+ retailers, and their pricing.


I bought an encore frame, no barrel about 2 years ago for $300ish.... that was stainless. Blued were $50ish less.

Prices are up a bit... $350 now for SS.

This is a REALLY low volume firearm. I've never seen a new on in a case at a shop... ever. Used, sure. The place I bought mine from has been in business 15 years. First one they ever sold, and they had to order it in special for me.

Barrels can be had for $200-$400 depending on maker, caliber, stainless/blue etc...

I like the T/C system, I like one frame, many barrels. I also like that the gun is 2-4" shorter because there is no bolt/action between the chamber and the hammer. A 16" T/C gun feels REALLY short, but is very handy in the thick stuff. Conversely a 28" barrel on something like a 7mm mag adds some useful velocity, but isn't any longer than my 24" rem 700.

Maybe because they're such a low-volume they're missing out on the market they USED to have!

When I worked in the gun shop? We had an Aisle in the warehouse full of receivers, and barrels. I think when they went to the "Encore" receiver, they drove the prices up...

Now for quality is there a quality difference between the Encore and Contender? Because the contender has a calibur I'd want but encore does not have, the 30-30 winchester.

'eh not really. Once you are into the system additional calibers are $300ish. Hard to get a quality rifle at that price point.

And you can allways goto the custom guys, like bullberry, SSK, Berga, matchgrademachine etc... to get just the profile, lenght, etc.. .you want.

The main difference on Encore vs Contender is available calibers. The Encore is designed to a much higher pressure and can take higher energy calibers. The minus is the encore (from the factory) is not able to handle rimfire cartridges. There are some that argue that the triggers are better on the contenders.... but thats subjective. The Contender has been around quite a while longer, so the selection of used barrels is larger, and less expensive when you find them used.

even some moderate power cartridges like .308 are not available in the contender.... nor my favorite light rifle chambering.... 7mm-08, even the .243 is not available for the contender.

So IMO if you don't have a large stock of barrels to use, and don't need rimfire, then the Encore is the way to go.

Oh the other BIG plus on a single shot in 'lever gun' cartridges... if you reload you can use pointy bullets safely. A .30-30 with a 120-130gr spire/spitzer in a 24" barrel will let you use the ol 30-30 at ranges you never considered using a 30-30 acceptable.

So I take that as a no, of course I didn't mean the 22lr I have a rifle for that I kind of meant more after just a lot of shooting.

I actually would get either 22 hornet, 17 hmr, or 30-30.

I would imagine, the hinge pin, which you fully remove to change barrels would be made ever so softer than the frame/barrel so as to be the wear out part.

Well if they make a replacement part for it no problem. I would probably go with the pistol version as that is freaking cool to have a pistol shoot rifle rounds!

if you haven't found Mike Bellm yet there is a ton of good reading.... also he sells slightly over size hinge pins for making the action tighter. $10 each.

Dude, you have no idea how cool.

IMO one of my favorite 'plinker' barrels is a 10" .223 Ammo is relatively cheap, recoil is mild.

As long as it isn't quite as over priced as .45 colts, 40 bucks a box jeez!

Plus I have a surplus of 30-30s and 30-06s though I don't think I'd want to shoot a 30-06 out of a pistol!

I own three Encores, they are great guns. I have yet to have a hinge pin wear out. Some people go to Mike Bellm and get the oversized pins I have not had to do so yet.
