Re: Hampton Roads - Where do you shoot?
I used to shoot at Camp Allen, but shortly before they had their fire that has had them closed for over a year, they banned pretty much all Russian ammo. I have WAY too much invested in Russian ammo, so I didn't renew my membership. I joined the Airfield Shooting Club in Wakefield. It is nice and of...

1917 Mauser G98 or 1917 Steyr M95/34 (yes, I bought the Steyr against Kreutz's recommendation -- too good a deal to pass up -- don't judge me!)

Re: For those of you too young to remember the first Cold War
I'm more concerned about the price and availability of Russian ammo. I quit my old range because they banned Russian ammo there, but perhaps soon (or whenever I use up my stockpile) that won't matter to me anymore.

Re: Strange stuff (and only soome of it true, probably).
The bit about not being able to suppress a revolver doesn't apply to the M1895 Nagant. I suppose whoever contributed that part was not a C&R collector.

My youngest came downstairs Christmas morning and asked, "Dad, why does it smell like cosmoline in here?" So happy that my kid knows what cosmoline smells like!

Perhaps now a combined build party and memorial service would be appropriate. I wish I could participate, but Harrisonburg is too far a haul for me. Anyone in Tidewater interested in doing something at this end of the Commonwealth?

He'll be ok. He already has two Mausers and a Mosin. He obviously likes to take abuse, as evidenced by his choice in schools.Mav wrote:hehe nice!.. lucky son..

First Garand
I guess this is the hoplophile's equivalent of "we're expecting!" I just ordered an M1 Garand for my youngest son as a Christmas present and to celebrate his recent acceptance to The Citadel. He was always a somewhat ambivalent student, so I made a deal with him when he started high school...

Re: Libertarians.....
Two libertarian scholars were debating whether it was moral to sell narcotics from a vending machine to children on a public sidewalk. After much heated discussion, they finally agreed that it was indeed immoral to have public sidewalks. (Stole this from my son, who is president of his school's coll...

Re: Gingrinch says "get beyond being anti-Obama"
Obama is a mere symptom of a much more serious underlying disease; even if he were to fall off the face of the Earth today nothing would change after. Or to put it another way, you can take aspirin to get rid of the fever, but the abscess remains just the same, and only grows deeper and more pustul...

Re: Any other Tokarev TT-33/M57 fans?
Thanks for the tips, Afrikaner. I just bought a bunch of upgrades for my Mossberg, so I probably won't be buying a gun for a few more months, but I always like planning out the next acquisition. I have a prioritized list that I frequently revise, but CommBloc stuff is usually at the top of it.

Re: Any other Tokarev TT-33/M57 fans?
I have a Romanian TTC that I love, and have been looking at the M57. I'd eventually like to get CZ52 as well, but I don't see them much anymore. While we're talking 7.62x25, I also want to get a PPS-43 and actually might do so. I'd really like to acquire a PPSh-41, but I've never seen one for sale a...

Re: Female article writer buys a gun (anti)
7 minutes? That's impressive. It always takes me a couple hours to get out of a gun shop. Especially if I'm buying because I have to admire all of their inventory first then compare all of my options even if I know what I am going to end up with. Last gun I ought from an FFL the check came back OK ...

Re: America's first Atheist Monument
Kreutz may be right. It might not have happened yet in this country, but it certainly did in the USSR and China. LOTS of religious people of all sorts were rounded up and imprisoned or executed. Political trends in this country have taught me not to say that "it couldn't happen here." The...

Re: America's first Atheist Monument
You don't see death threats or blanket statements about a groups morality issued by atheists and there are no infallible atheist texts that call for the death of the believer. Give it time. Kreutz may be right. It might not have happened yet in this country, but it certainly did in the USSR and Chi...
