Re: silver eagle group, ashburn va
I've been shooting at SEG 4 times over the last 6 months, NRA once, and Sharpshooter's twice. I can definitely say SEG is my favorite of those three. The only big downside for me is the drive (takes between 45-90 minutes, depending on traffic). Aside from the range, though, the service I've gotten t...

Re: WaPo "Investigation" into illegal guns....
I think he's saying basically to be careful not to lump all "non-conservatives" into the same pot. The Washington Post editors and plenty of others like them (e. g. those of the LA Times and NY Times) try to lump all gun owners as essentially inbred, bigoted hillbillies. We see this all t...

Re: WaPo "Investigation" into illegal guns....
I realize I'm in the *extreme* minority on this site, and that's fine. We have a common interest in firearms, and it's called VAGunForum.net (as opposed to VAPoliticalOpinions.net). That said, I read the WashingtonPost (well, on my iPhone...what's a newspaper?), and bashing subscribers as brainless ...

Re: Multiple Trustees on an 'NFA trust?'
Interesting points all around. I suppose when we find a lawyer we'll let them guide us in what they feel is the best direction. User- I'm aware there's no real 'nfa trust,' I was just using the term so it was apparent what I was talking about. As for the legal intricacies of words like 'use,' 'trust...

Re: Multiple Trustees on an 'NFA trust?'
I definitely intend to use a lawyer. As for my buddy having the ability to sell anything on the trust....meh. If it costs me $500 to find out I have a disloyal friend, I'd consider that worth the cost. Thanks for the input, hopefully I get this ball rolling and then...find a host for the silencer :/

Multiple Trustees on an 'NFA trust?'
In a classic case of jumping the gun, a friend and purchased (by which I mean paid for) .22LR silencers at the Chantilly gun show this weekend. They'll be transferred to SEG, but of course we didn't set up a trust first, so we need to get on that. My question is (and I plan on using one of the lawye...

Re: Alternative to Silver Eagle?
Well, I made it out to Sharpshooters and I definitely had an incorrect impression of the place. Great experience overall, will certainly go back soon. Full writeup is in the sharpshooter's thread, to make sure they get my positive review where people are more likely to look.

Re: Sharpshooter's/Gilbert's off 7100
I thought I'd chime in on this one. I made it out to sharpshooters this morning and was pleasantly surprised. I actually brought three DC residents, none of whom have any real experience with firearms, and stick out like a sore thumb anywhere outside of a DC hipster bar that serves PBR in cans. I wa...

Re: Alternative to Silver Eagle?
Well, I'll just have to check it out for myself and see. I don't know anything about Ashburn or Lorton, I'd just like to find a good range and it doesn't look like my city will be getting one anytime in the near...ever. You do make a good point about judging things for oneself, but like you said, th...

Re: Sig P522 SWAT with Green Laser
I do have a (FL) CWP, but I would never open carry, and I'd rarely if ever carry at all, given how much time I spend in the district.
And LFS, I'd just buy all of Subway Jared's old pants and tuck it in the waistband

Re: Alternative to Silver Eagle?
To be fair, I heard that from someone who only drinks hand-pressed coffee
It's a bit of a drive for my Ashburn buddy, though, so I'll probably check it out on my own sometime.

Alternative to Silver Eagle?
A few friends and I were planning on heading up to Silver Eagle Group in Ashburn to try out some new hardware. I just saw on their website that they're closed until further notice. Unfortunate, since I was very pleased with my last experience and have been hyping it up to my friends. In the stead, i...

Re: Sig P522 SWAT with Green Laser
I just got back from that show. It was nice. Never saw any green lasers though, and I was looking. I did see a bunch of teeny-tiny high powered flashlights. This one was actually already installed on the weapon by Bailey's, I bought them together. I did see one for sale at the Afton Arms booth, tho...

Sig P522 SWAT with Green Laser
As chronicled here , I overpurchased and nearly made this thing illegal. Anyway, now that the vertical grip is out of my life, I can get to enjoying the weapon. Picked this up at the Chantilly Gun Show Saturday from Bailey's booth. Sig Sauer P522 SWAT (rails with soft grip covers), two 25-rd mags, a...

Re: SBRing a Sig P522, FNG questions
Aaaaaand, it's sold. My buddy is buying it for his rifle, for what I paid, so everyone wins (he was looking for a laser when I texted him). Seriously, thanks for all the help, you guys saved my ass on this one. Now I can forget this nonsense and enjoy owning my first firearm! (well, I have a taurus ...

Re: SBRing a Sig P522, FNG questions
Well, this has been highly informative. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to explain all of this stuff to me. I feel kind of dumb now for just walking into this blindly. It sounds like the whole thing is a bigger effort than it's worth, I may just sell the grip and keep the weapon "s...

Re: SBRing a Sig P522, FNG questions
If you just want to put the vertical grip on it, it would be an AOW IIRC. If you also want to put a stock on it, then it would be a SBR. Yes, if all you want is a foregrip, then all you'd need is to get it registered as an AOW. This costs $200 if you do it yourself, or $5 + expenses if you have a m...

Re: SBRing a Sig P522, FNG questions
Sounds extreme indeed. Really what concerns me, though, is that I happened into this. I thought a vertical grip would be a nice assist for target practice, so I bought it. I mean, it's at least *more* logical to assume someone purchasing or trying to purchase an automatic weapon or a supressor is aw...

Re: SBRing a Sig P522, FNG questions
Well, that's good information to have. I guess I'll be sure to keep this apart from the weapon until I have the paperwork complete, then. It seems kind of extreme to me, but whatever. I'm glad the folks that sold me the case told me about it, otherwise I would have happily mounted it and headed out ...
