Well I decided to take the plunge and ordered the 2/3 Ipsc 1/2 in AR500 Steel and large spring stand. I also ordered some duraseal targets as an alternative.
We'll see how it works!

Re: Outdoor Range Locations
Anyone know of any relatively near NoVa? I have heard of the Cove Campground and Clarks Brothers.
I wouldn't mind getting a few more names to research. Preferably one that will let you set up your own targets and fire up to (not necessarily including) .50 cal.

Re: The Cove Campground - Gore, VA
Kool. Thanks for the info. I will try to go up there in 3 weeks with my cous and his AK. Between possibly lugging ammo and steel targets for a 1/4 mile, I don't know if this will be a practical place to shoot. There is an outdoor range a little closer to me. They have no fees, but you must buy their...

Re: Steel Targets and Alternatives
another alternative for reactive targets that I have tried are the duraseal targets. they have them in various shapes bottles, bowling pins, Gongs, critters, and such they dont make the same sound as a good whack on steel but they are fairly cheap, light and hold up to alot of shots (over 500 from ....

Re: Steel Targets and Alternatives
+1 Nothing beats that satisfying ping, except Tannerite. Checkout http://www.shopactiontarget.com/ they are AR500 steel and they have portable targets the breakdown and setup also. They laser cut, not water cut and Gunderwood was saying that steel can chip at the edge if laser cut(heat ruins...

Re: The Cove Campground - Gore, VA
Well I don't have a truck. Do you know how far the walk is? Carrying ammo is heavy. Is the road really that bad???
Would a front wheel drive car work?
Sniff, my dream seems to be dying.....

Re: Firearm Unfriendly Businesses in Virginia
Fuddruckers on West Broad St in Henrico. They were robbed at gunpoint and the manager (an Army vet) posted a NO GUNS ALLOWED sign after the robbery. A good number of us wrote letters protesting the policy and complained to their corporate office. The manager changed his mind and welcomed us with op...

Re: Firearm Unfriendly Businesses in Virginia
NickFac, did you speak with a manager? IMO if it is not posted that you cannot OC or CC then it takes something more than a server to make the decision. Obviously the property owner can make that determination and I would accept that the owners representative (a manager) has the authority to make t...

Re: Pulled over on the way to Va Beach
Yep, you got treated pretty much like everyone else does who chooses to carry...sometime they will even drop your weapon on the road as they attempt to unload the mag...sometimes they never ask...you realize that here in VA you are not required to inform an LEO that you are carrying a pistol? Reall...

Re: Steel Targets and Alternatives
After looking at some other sites, I think I will go with your original recommendation.
What about a stand for other types of targets? Like zombie targets. I have looked at a few, but don't have experience with them. Paper targets or other materials.

Steel Targets and Alternatives
I was considering buying a steel target, since every so often (maybe more thanks to hearing about The Cove Campground) I will shoot at an open range. It's slightly annoying to have to carry around bowling pins, since you have to stand them back up, so I wanted to hear about target alternatives. Gund...

Re: The Cove Campground - Gore, VA
Sorry, in my eagerness about hear the answer to my prayers, I didn't bother to look first.
Looks reasonable. I assume the general admission price of 13 bones on the weekends covers the range. How big is it? Do they have benches?
Looks like a cure to my range problem in NoVa.

Re: The Cove Campground - Gore, VA
This is what I came to the board for!!!!!! Please give me more information. The place I like to shoot is in PA. It's an outdoor range on private property where people bring whatever the want to shoot at whatever they want (non-organic). They have benches and it's outdoor, which is great when shootin...

Re: Sub compact shooting
It really isn't the short barrel for say, but rather the fact that recoil tends to be higher and a shorter sight radius. The actual barrel length doesn't help, but at the ranges these are intended for, it really doesn't matter. The short sight radius is the biggest contributor to degraded accuracy ...

Sub compact shooting
I own a 40 XD (which I just baptized this weekend) and a S&W J Frame. Went to an open range in PA to shoot this weekend and I can't seem to hit the side of a barn with the things. I understand that the short barrel hinders distance accuracy, so I was wondering if any of the sub owners out there ...
