Sharp! Got to get some. I'll need two sets because I'm ambidextrous.

Got a New Gat

Seeing that dorminWS' best buddies were getting all these great new 1911s, I decided that I would capitalize on Black Friday and outfit myself with some mobile firepower. I went with this model in urban camouflage. OK, so it's not a 1911 or variant, but it was inexpensive and it's just the ticket fo...

Re: how to calculate energy in your head.

Kinetic energy values are what type of "strike" you'll get at whatever range you're hitting. Ballistics, and velocity help get it there, but in certain situations, you need to know how HARD it's gonna strike wherever you send it. The problem with using kinetic energy for a target striking...

Re: how to calculate energy in your head.

Really it's only benefit for it's use is distance guns at matches, and long distance "sniping" competitions, and military applications. Around Va? If you're shooting more than a mile? You're not in a gun fight, you're up to shenanigans. Helps with long shots on 'yotes, but otherwise? Nah,...

Re: how to calculate energy in your head.

Perhaps the real question is why would you need to know the bullet's kinetic energy? In my more than a few years of shooting, I've only needed to know and use it once. That once was for an unique pistol match which had a bullet kinetic energy minimum as well as a bullet momentum minimum (latter aka ...

Re: how to calculate energy in your head.

I don't really understand what you are trying to say in your post, but here is a simpler math method to calculate muzzle energy in your head. It's called the 2.22 Rule bullet weight in grains (divided by 100) times muzzle velocity in ft/sec (divided by 100) times muzzle velocity in ft/sec (divided b...

I just realized what you were talking about. If the sell THAT set at the asking price, we will know fer sure there is one sho' 'nuff GUN NUT in the world. I suspect it will more likely be a Colombian or Mexican drug lord than a true gun nut. https://www.google.com/search?q=drug+cartel+guns&espv...

Re: How to grip a handgun to shoot fast & accurate

Assuming the goal here is to shoot as accurate as your body/ firearm/ ammo combination is able, and adding in the fact that the art of the trigger pull is congruent with the grip of the pistol as the trigger finger is part of the gripping hand, how could the grip not matter in slow or fast shooting...

Re: How to grip a handgun to shoot fast & accurate

Not speaking for screwedbygoogle, but shooting fast or slow…grip DOES MATTER. How so? If you properly align the handgun with the target and pull the trigger until the handgun discharges without disturbing the handgun's alignment, then you will hit the target. How you grip the handgun does not reall...

I lost interest after reading this part.
I'm curious - why are you only interested in shooting a handgun slowly?

Wonder why neither the FBI nor any other large outfits that robustly test terminal ballistics are not jumping on the ARX or other boutique bullets? Could it be because they are mainly solid-state snake oil products?

Good advice. Stick with the major US manufacturers of proven defensive ammo such as Speer Gold Dot or Federal HST.
