Good news from another state

A great win by Florida carry: http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?m=1114009452090&ca=7c9048ad-fed6-439c-9100-e64bf46fcfaa ...and some encouragement for the long haul we may face here in VA. Two principles at work here: (1) preemption by higher level government (in this case State vs C...

Vienna Arsenal, Vienna

I visited this shop, close to home for me, for the first time a couple of months ago to discuss a transfer. Last week, made a handgun purchase there. On both occasions, I received knowledgeable, pleasant & efficient service. Price on the (new) handgun was very competitive. Good inventory, especi...

I also asked about why he was closing and specifically asked about the recent opening of Cabelas nearby and its impact. He gave a very nonspecific answer, and I chose, as a matter or courtesy, not to follow up with more questions. Bernie communicates very clearly, and if he'd wanted to say anything ...

Re: Virginia Arms

A sad bump for an old thread--Virginia Arms is shutting down: http://www.virginiaarms.com/ I stopped by and spoke with the owner, who confirmed it. The shop is pretty bare--a few items remain and the shop it self will close in a few weeks. I'm dismayed; I've found this shop to be one of the very bes...

Re: Northern Neck--Where to shoot?

Thanks--I'd appreciate any suggestions. Only location I've identified is the Rappahannock Pistol and Rifle Club down in White Stone, but that's about an hour's travel from where I'd be looking--almost the same as heading back towards Fredericksburg

Northern Neck--Where to shoot?

Any recommendations on places to shoot in the Northern Neck? Looking for something a reasonable distance from the Hague/Kinsale area.

Is this first hand? Second hand? Internet rumor? If you have examples or experience let's hear it! I agree with the responding comment above from ironbear I don't have any knowledge of Straight Shooters Gunsmithing. In the Oakton area I've used Jeff May: http://www.ustacticalusa.com/ The work he di...

The .44 and the .45 don't see hollow point
What's your thinking behind that?

Re: Ruger SR1911

Thanks! I've had it for over a year now, and have shot it a lot more. For whatever reason, for me, it consistently shoots more accurately than either of my 1911 Sigs or my Dan Wesson 9mm--all of which are very good, and all of which have excellent barrels and triggers. I think it is just a great pis...

Re: Virginia to end CCW reciprocity with 24 states

Is the VASP supposed or required to charge for this service? Or is the law to be written such that it will be a free service? Also, will the information on the gun transaction be retained in some sort of database? From VCDL: * The State Police may charge a reasonable fee. (If they charge more than ...

Re: Travel in/out of Maryland

OldEagle's methods are probably the safest from a legal standpoint, even if it's above and beyond. "Above & beyond"--from my perspective, of course you're right. The problem in MD, or NJ, or NY, etc is that my perspective and your perspective won't matter, and cost of getting it "...

Re: Travel in/out of Maryland

I lived in Maryland for many years before I was able to escape across the river... It always seemed to me that the intent of the law is pretty clear--that neither the firearm nor the ammo be accessible and that they be separated. Since I never drove a car with a trunk, that always meant 2 lockable c...

Re: One night in Paris...

I'm as much in favor concealed carry as anyone--but this isn't a problem that's going to be solved no matter how many of of us are armed and prepared as individuals. This is a global war, prosecuted against us and against other western countries by an enemy that is organized, sophisticated, and very...

Re: Ruger SR1911

The SR1911 is full size too--so the comparison to the Sig was like to like. I guess all-around I was just surprised by how good the SR1911 is--it wasn't what I expected. I think the Sig 1911s are excellent--but they are also about $200 to $300 more expensive.

Re: Ruger SR1911

Thanks guys... A few more notes: - Price was $550 plus tax - Ammo used was PMC Bronze 230 gr FMJ--so decent ammo but certainly not match grade - I brought along a full size Sig 1911 and alternated shooting strings. I was very surprised that my groups with the Ruger were consistently tighter. Both th...

Ruger SR1911

I've been looking for an economical 1911 for a range gun. I'd heard good things about Ruger's 1911. As I was driving to work the other day, I was listening to the story about the travails NOVAFirearms had been having trying to open a new location in Arlington. I'd never been to their shop in McLean,...

Re: Clark Brothers

I've shot at CB intermittently over 20 years. I'd use their range more often if I lived closer. I've always found it to be a perfectly reasonable place to shoot--not fancy, not high tech, but perfectly reasonable, especially if you prefer shooting outdoors, as I do. I don't understand the apparent o...

Re: CC at the Nation's Gun Show?

No question is ever stupid--but assumptions can be.

The Nations Gun Show (Dulles) strictly enforces a "no loaded guns" on premises--and asks every visitor upon entry if he is carrying. I have no reason to think they will have changed it for this weekend's show.
