Kel-Tec's new PMR30 - 22LR/MAG 30 rounds w/ Picatinny Rail

Post by allingeneral »

The KelTec PMR30 is a 22LR/Magnum with a 30-round magazine. Steel hammer, barrel and slide - everything else is polymer, which helps keep weight down. Comes with an under-barrel picatinny rail which accepts most any laser or even a small rail-mounted flashlight.

Sounds like a fun little gun!

This looks like it will be a fun pistol. Who doesn't like 30rd mags to go out and kill some cans or paper. Personally, I wouldn't consider it a "carry gun", nor much better for pistol-range small game hunting than a 22lr, so I don't see the reasoning behind using the 22wmr, it just makes it more expensive to shoot of the 22lr. I wonder how big of a pain it will be to load a double stack mag with rimfire cartridges? Any idea when this will be available or a price?

Looks like it's expected to be available sometime in Q2 2010 at an MSRP of $415.00

Here is information from the KelTec website
http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/pmr30.htm

The PMR-30 is a light weight, full size pistol chambered for the flat-shooting .22Magnum cartridge (.22WMR). The PMR-30 operates on a unique hybrid blowback/locked-breech system. This operation system allows for the use of a wide variety of ammunition as it seamlessly adjusts between locked breach and blowback operation, depending on the pressure of the cartridge. It uses a double stack magazine of a new design that holds 30 rounds and fits completely in the grip of the pistol. The trigger is a crisp single action with an over-travel stop. The manual safety is a thumb activated ambidextrous safety lever (up for SAFE, down for FIRE). The slide locks back after the last shot and a manual slide lock lever is also provided. The light, crisp trigger pull and fiber optic sights make the PMR-30 ideal for target shooting and hunting small game.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Calibers: .22 Magnum (.22WMR)
Weight unloaded: 13.6oz. 186g
Loaded Magazine: 6oz. 170g

Sight radius: 6.9" 175.26mm
Energy (40gr): 138ft-lbs 187J
Capacity: 30 rounds
Trigger pull: 3.5-5 lbs 23N

Slide and barrel are 4140 steel, frame is 7075 aluminum. Grip, slide cover, trigger, mag release, and safety levers are glass reinforced Nylon (Zytel), much like other Kel-Tec Pistols. Magazine is Also Zytel and holds 30 rounds, with round count ports. Other features include: dual opposing extractors for reliability, heel magazine release to aid in magazine retention, dovetailed aluminum front sight, Picatinny accessory rail under the barrel, Urethane recoil buffer, captive coaxial recoil springs. The barrel is fluted for light weight and effective heat dissipation. PMR30 disassembles for cleaning by removal of a single pin.

Im sold, can't wait to see one in person. I wish it were a LITTLE heavier though, I like a little chunk in a pistol to help steady the mt.dew hands.

Daddy LIKE!!!! :pistol:

A beautiful functional tool for the .22 Magnum rounds. I even like the 'mechanical' look it has! Can't wait to see it at the Gun Show..It might beat out my lust for an AR!

I'd like it better if it were 22lr/22wmr. Save a bit of money on the price of ammo. .22 wmr is a tad expensive for cutting paper.

I wonder if there is a reason they didn't use the 22lr as opposed to the wmr? Maybe the lr didn't have enough oompf to completely operate the action? Also, I bet loading it will be a pain, a double stack mag and the little 22 shell will probably be hell on my fingers, unless they come with a nifty loader.Whatever.. im sold on this. Once I get a chance to actually touch this gun, it will most likely come home with me and I will most likely sleep on the couch as a result haha

Great looks, I like the discounted weight. I'd be interested in getting one but $415.00 for a .22 pistol seems a tad high to me. Hell, throw in another 50.00 a buy a glock! IMHO

BIL, has one and we have played with it for about 2 weeks now, must say I like the little gun, fairly accurate, and so far it likes the 22mag ammo we have had on hand,IMO it would make a great tackle box gun or a woods walker rig, we are going to try it with the CCI shot loads this weekend

The demand isn't that high for this gun, it's just that the supply is very low. Kel-tec is making only a low number of these guns available. So, unless someone is willing to pay a premium for a "rare" gun, this gun isn't a practical gun to buy. It's certainly not in the same league as the Ruger Mk 1 or Mk 2.

I find this to be an interesting assertion. Do you have any evidence to support it?

Personally, I really want one, but won't be buying until it's been out for a year or two (i.e. had the kinks worked out).
