One side says stay/look cool/normal and dress in decently nice clothes and, if you want, carry a handgun either open or concealed - like previous years.
One side says show up looking like you're ready to start a fire fight, rifles, clothes, gear and all.
I really want to go. I do drive on the roads and I've been in the US Army and I know that not everyone knows how to operate (correctly and safely) what they drive or carry.
VCDL (and others) keep telling people they will not be allowed inside with bags or rifles (just handguns).
I don't like the idea that society, the courts, the politicians, etc. have deteriorated to the point where I feel like I need to carry a gun (concealed) on my when I'm out shopping, eating, running errands.
I am not looking forward to the point where you don't go out unless you go in a group and everyone is carrying rifles/shotguns, etc.
I don't think the dims/libs/progs/socialists understand the hornet's nest they keep poking.

I can see your point, but we do not live in a world where there are no two legged predators.
Frankly, being "mobility challenged" and on a fixed income I can't run away from an attacker, I can barely make a fist, and I FLAT REFUSE to donate to forced wealth redistribution attempts. Therefore I carry everywhere I legally can.

If you aren't part of the solution, then you obviously weren't properly dissolved.
I've been told VCDL doesn't want nonresidents at this thing, and has requested they stay away. I'll assume it's because they want reinforcements should things go very sideways for you guys. I'll stay home awaiting the call on 1/20.
If I understand (some of) what I've read there is the VCDL here that wants lots of people to show up and to peacefully rally and show their support for the legislature keeping their hands off the 2nd Amendment and respectfully talking to/reasoning with the state legislature that day.
And there is a group that plans to show up wearing battle gear and carrying the very weapons the proposed laws are planned to ban. Many of them say they will be loud, disrespectful, etc., etc. because talking doesn't work.
I can see both sides but I also don't believe anyone will intimidate a bunch of dim/lib/prog/socialist politicians by walking around with AR15's slung over their shoulders or carrying them in their hands while wearing camo fatigues, battle belts and loaded ammo pouches. React? Yeah, they'll react. But it won't be going catatonic so they can be placed where they need to be (long term care for the emotionally/mentally challenged). There reaction might be to double down on their threats to enforce methods to remove those guns from the public.
Man, I really don't know. I want to go. I don't want trouble, riots, injuries, deaths, etc.
There is nothing open or honest in the intentions of the other side. They have a disease that forces them to attempt to control everyone around them. No matter how much control they have it will never be enough so this crap will never end as long as they walk the streets (and halls of government.)
The very last thing Lobby Day needs is ANYONE carrying a rifle (of any type) or anyone with a belligerent attitude.
We NEED to keep Lobby Day peaceful and respectful.
Trying to scare the Democrats will NOT be received well.

I agree with maintaining a certain decorum of respect and professionalism, but keep in mind the opposition is the opposite end of the spectrum. They like to be dirty, play underhanded, and have even called for "snuffing" of gun owners.

I'm not a prolific poster here, or anywhere, but I'm in for Lobby Day. Hopefully other lurkers here will show up, too.
I am bringing one other person - who moved to VA specifically because he thought it was a more free state gun-wise. Working on convincing two other guys to come with us. Pretty much just so we can back each other up while walking between the parking deck and the capital grounds.
Having been part of that city's underground scene, I'm sure there are people just itching to play act and pretend they live in Portland. Probably enough of them that those on our side may want to do some planning beforehand to make sure that our attendees can be safely escorted back to their vehicles.
This ain't Oregon and the Lobby Day isn't be held in Portland, where the police are so hog tied that the crowds can blockade federal officers inside their buildings, burn cars and rampage through the city. Not yet anyway.
Are the Richmond city government and police that far gone? Would they stand by and watch trouble makes bused in from out of state and paid for by foreign communist's money assault Virginia citizens?
Wife and I should be there; we've reserved a hotel room, within walking distance. That should cover any parking issues, and hopefully dissuade vandals.
As for attire, I won't be dressed for battle; probably a nice shirt and a sport jacket. I don't want to end up as the poster boy for the inevitable media hit piece that we all know is coming.
So... I'll ask again... is there a designated VGOF meet up spot?

I'm going to be in Richmond on that day anyway. I understand there are at least 4 or 5 buses coming up from Wise and Lee Counties (that's at the very pointy western end, folks).

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

Militias
Various militia groups from Virginia and nearby states have graciously volunteered to provide security. With a large Capitol, Richmond, and State police presence, not to mention enough citizens armed with handguns to take over a modern mid-sized country, we have the security base covered nicely. That said, we welcome our militia brothers and sisters to be part of making the day a success! Some militia groups are looking to take canned food donations during Lobby Day and deliver them to a Richmond Food Bank.

Don't confuse nonresidents with militia. There are thousands of nonresidents living in Virginia who strongly support the 2A. They are military or dependent family members of military servicemembers.
