Drunk Neighbor shooting outside, Legal?

Something just happen that has me scratching my head.

I live in Williamsburg in the middle of the city in a normal neighborhood with houses about 10-20 feet from each other. There are houses on all sides of us on 1/4-1/2 acre lots. We actually live in a Cul-de-sac. My intoxicated neighbors just fired off a pistol in the back yard right next to my kids bedroom.

The police came out and told me it was perfectly legal. He said the state changed the law and as long as it wasn't a rifle, they could shoot all they wanted.

I had the same response when the police told me it was not illegal and the state law changed. Last I knew you couldn't shoot a firearm within the city limits or within X amount of feet of a dwelling residence. They were just a few feet away from my kids beds.

I was so amped up last night I forgot to post the question to the thread. When did this law change and is this what we wanted as a 2A activists? I'm all for being able to shoot my guns on my own property but damn it seems wild to be able to do it so close to other peoples homes.

..I'm going to assume that the alcohol involvement was just a hard item to investigate and they figured it wasn't worth their time.

It was 5 shots in rapid fire and over in a moment.

I think you should contact your representative on the Board of Supervisors and question him/her on the subject. I do not recall any State preemption on discharge of firearms in populated areas. Lacking such a law would leave local ordinances in place.

If the officer was mistaken in his facts your representative should inform the agency of the error.

Being a guy with much experience living in Williamsburg, I'm particularly surprised that it happened there. Or, do you live on the outskirts; Toano, Croaker, or something?

No, I live right in the city. It was a York/Poc Sheriff department that responded though. I have no faith that I could get away with the same thing if I cracked the band on a fresh pallet. I think I'm going to assume they were being lazy and gave me lip service to get me to forget about it.

I've already made nice with the neighbor for the peace of the stupid HOA but at least now I know he's a weirdo. I hate living in the city. Hopefully, the next house will have no neighbors and it'll be far away from here.
