Ole Man Winter firing a warning shot over our heads....
When the fog and haze cleared up this morning, you could see the frostline was just a few feet above main street and one ridge back from town. Combination of snow and rime ice had all the trees coated white. A picture really can't do justice to the beauty of the sunlight on that. We were clear as a bell in town. If you went a quarter-mile up the mountain you'd be on snow and ice. Almost makes you feel cozy.

Cool pic dormin. Had a similar view a couple weeks ago, after a day & night of freezing rain.

Cold is in our forecast too but, the coldest is supposed to be Sunday, & Sunday night... single digits. Coldest I've seen it this winter so far was 4 degrees one morning. Haven't had much snow yet, either.

I heard something tapping on the front glass, went to look figuring it was a bird, or something in the wind, turns out it was the red stuff from the bulb of the thermometer wanting to come in...

I hit some flurries in Nashville, this morning. I see some snow on the ground, currently, in Wytheville, but the skies are fairly clear. According to the weather map, looks like we might hit a bit more snow before we hit the Richmond area.

Well, it got down to 11 here in the flatlands just above the fall line. I can't imagine the higher elevations being only one degree colder.

That's pretty much what happened. Might have dropped a degree or two below that right at daybreak. 10 degrees now.

Got a 15-20 year old flat asphalt roof that vines climbing the building got into the flashing and grew out into the insulation along a wall Having to cut some out and replace, then patch. Naturally, it shows up by starting to leak when it's so cold the freeze/thaw cycle is most pronounced. That's the problem with roofs. they only leak when its raining or snowing, and you can only fix them when it ain't.Viper21 wrote:What's wrong with your roof..? LOL.... only when it rains or snows...haha. I tell people all the time, if it didn't rain, or snow, I wouldn't have a jobdorminWS wrote:Got a 15-20 year old flat asphalt roof that vines climbing the building got into the flashing and grew out into the insulation along a wall Having to cut some out and replace, then patch. Actually pretty common. I see more leaks this time of year than in late spring early summer rains. Ice & snow are much more capable of exposing flaws, than rain is. Gravity works to your advantage with rain.... ice defies gravity, & gets in places rain can't. The freeze/thaw cycle exposes voids that typically don't show during rains.
Glad you got a grip on it at least, have the problem isolated, & have a repair plan. The overwhelming majority of flat or low sloped roofs I encounter aren't typically roofed right. Usually poorly done, wrong materials, or both. The margin for error on flat or low slopes is a fraction of what it is on steep slope applications.

I was in Greenbrier County, WV this weekend. This morning it was 15 below zero at my Mom's house. Sunny, clear and windy when I left around 1100, but I forgot to look at the thermometer again.
We stopped at the Sheetz station at Waynesboro off I64 on the way back to Chesterfield. While I was trying to get the salt/crud off the windshield and camper shell windows the cleaning solution was turning to ice and blowing away as I squeegee'd it off the windshield. My wife was sitting inside the warm truck while I pumped gas and cleaned windows. She thought it was funny.

Got up this am at 5:30 to just a little below 7 degrees. Roads were so icy the Pastor called God and told him we'd see him next week. Got pretty warm this afternoon, just a little more than 16.
Been watching the reports for snow starting tomorrow and going into Tuesday. Heard Roanoke will get 3-5, but doesn't look like we'll get much at all up here in the top of Virginia.

Re: Ole Man Winter firing a warning shot over our heads....
Had 1-2 inches of snow on top of a thin sheet of ice Friday night.
Was 3 degrees yesterday morning.
14 degrees now, and started snowing about 8:00. High of 31 today with 5-8 inches of snow.
3-5 inches and a low of 18 tonight.
High of 27 tomorrow, cloudy with a low that night of 8.
High of 16 Wednesday with flurries, low of -5.
High on Thursday of 12 with a low of -4
High of 23 Friday, low 15.
And to cap off a wonderful week, Saturday will have a high of 37, low of 34, and FREEZING RAIN.
Maybe the Vikings were right, and hell is a place of frozen misery. I'm beginning to appreciate that perspective.
