In what I believe is payback to Michael Bloomberg for his massive financial contributions to the McAuliffe for Governor campaign, Governor McAuliffe is now calling for a hodgepodge of gun control to be introduced in the General Assembly in January.
My response to all of you: Lobby Day. The larger the turnout, the larger the message that Virginians do not want any more gun control. We will have buses this year, watch for an alert on that coming out next.
Here is what McAuliffe wants passed this coming year (and my comments):
* Prohibit the possession of firearms for people subject to protective orders - Protective orders are pretty much automatic for both parties when a couple files for divorce. Everyone should be disarmed when getting a divorce? Stupid idea.
* Prohibit the possession of firearms for MISDEMEANOR domestic violence and other MISDEMEANOR offenders - Misdemeanors are not meant to take away civil rights.
* Reinstate the one-handgun-a month law - McAuliffe claims this will curtail handgun trafficking, but while the old one-handgun-a-month law was in effect, New York was complaining about all the gun trafficking coming from Virginia! Why would it be any different this time? It wouldn't. Gun trafficking cannot be curtailed, even if McAuliffe says so.
* Revoke concealed handgun permits for parents delinquent on child support payments - Nothing but a naked gun grab. Why not take away someone's drivers license if they're late paying their water bill, too?
* Close the gun show loophole - What loophole? This is really Universal Background Checks, which will lead inevitably to Universal Registration to enforce Universal Background Checks.
* Give Virginia State Police authority to process voluntary background check requests - I'm not sure that having the Virginia State Police run voluntary NICS background checks is allowed under federal law currently.

McAuliffe announces package of gun proposals BY ANDREW CAIN Richmond Times-Dispatch
Gov. Terry McAuliffe today announced a series of election-year gun proposals, including initiatives to reinstate the one-gun-a-month limit on handgun purchases and to close the so-called "gun show loophole."
The Democrat's proposals also include barring the possession of firearms for people who are subject to protective orders and people who have committed certain misdemeanors, such as stalking, sexual battery, and domestic violence.
McAuliffe also proposed revoking concealed handgun permits for parents who are delinquent on child support payments. The McAuliffe administration said in a news release that 8,889 parents with concealed handgun permits are delinquent on child support payments, collectively owing more than $15.6 million. [PVC: I wonder how many people with drivers licenses or are registered to vote are behind on their child support payments? I'll bet that is a really big number.]
“As governor, there is no greater responsibility than ensuring the health and safety of the citizens I serve,” McAuliffe said in a statement about his initiatives.
“Our commonwealth and our nation have seen too many tragedies as a result of dangerous weapons getting into the hands of the wrong people. These common-sense proposals will keep guns out of the hands of criminals, will keep our communities safe, and will help to build a new Virginia economy.”
McAuliffe likely will face an uphill battle in for new gun curbs in the legislative session that convenes Jan. 14. Republicans now control the state Senate and have about a 2 to 1 edge in the House of Delegates. All 140 legislative seats are up for election in November.
McAuliffe’s gun initiatives include proposals to:
* Prohibit the possession of firearms for people subject to protective orders.
* Prohibit the possession of firearms for misdemeanor domestic violence offenders
* Reinstate the one-handgun-a month law
* Revoke concealed handgun permits for parents delinquent on child support payments
* Close the gun show loophole
* Give Virginia State Police authority to process voluntary background check requests
In February 2012, then-Gov. Bob McDonnell, a Republican, signed legislation to overturn Virginia's landmark one-handgun-a-month law, a restriction then-Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, a Democrat, advocated in the early 1990s when gun trafficking was seen as a problem along the East Coast.
Del. L. Scott Lingamfelter, R-Prince William, who sponsored the 2012 measure to repeal the provision, argued that technology and the quality of background checks had rendered the law unnecessary. Over the years, people have been exempted from the one-gun provision, he said, including people with a concealed-carry permit.

So, as best I can understand the girl in that video, you need a background check to steal a gun.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.
