Ranges near Chantilly
We just got our offer accepted on a house in Chantilly and will be moving in August. I currently shoot at Sharpshooters as I live 3 miles from there. I have done a quick search and have found that the 2 closest ranges are Blue Ridge and NRA Range. I want a range where I can shoot my AR's as well as my handguns. What do you guys recommend? The NRA range is amazing but the wait to shoot is just too much for someone with little free time. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If I were shooting a rifle, I would want the NRA's 50 yard capability. You might also checkout SEG in Ashburn. They have a 50 yard range too, but it may not be available all the time - recommend you check.

Re: Ranges near Chantilly
how far do you want to shoot, and what style.
50 yds, and slow fire from a bench and there are lots of options.
100 yds, and rapid fire... you're going to have to drive. A lot.

Thank you both. 50yrds slow fire from a bench would be just fine.

there is Clark Brothers out west of Warrenton in Opal near 17/29 split. Outdoors but crowded on the weekends.

Thanks. I will check it out once I move out there. What about Blue Ridge? Any reason why I SHOULDN'T go there? I've heard mixed reviews.DryBones wrote:there is Clark Brothers out west of Warrenton in Opal near 17/29 split. Outdoors but crowded on the weekends.

I prefer it to Sharpshooters. Blue Ridge has better maintained range equipment and lighting. And, like Sharpshooters, it's open seven days a week. I'm an annual member at Blue Ridge. I just don't think it's a good range to shoot rifles on based solely on its limited target distance. This applies to most indoor ranges as few will let you run a target out much past 20 yards.RO73 wrote: What about Blue Ridge? Any reason why I SHOULDN'T go there? I've heard mixed reviews.

Have you been to the NRA on a weeknight? I went on Thursday with a few friends, we got 2 lanes, there was no wait and it was so empty we weren't limited to an hour. Maybe 1/2-2/3 of the lanes were occupied at any given time while we were there.
There is NO better range in the area, IMO.

I have never been there on a weeknight. I've been there twice and both times were on a Saturday. I agree that the range is top notch. I'm just worried that since I work a lot during the week, my only option will be to go shoot on weekends.DiscipleofJMB wrote:Have you been to the NRA on a weeknight? I checked out Blue Ridge's website, the membership rate is a little too pricey. It was $100 initiation + $34.99/month. I paid $275 total for my yearly membership at sharpshooters.

NRA is $300 a year for NRA members. There's a father's day discount today where it's only $250 (which is the same price as LEO/military if you qualify).RO73 wrote:I have never been there on a weeknight. Not sure what the $300 at the NRA range is. I am an NRA member with the blue range card and I paid $15 for an hour last time I was there. IS the $300 a yearly , no limit fee? BTW, if you think thursdays are quiet try going on a friday evening around 5:30pm. Last 2 times there I almost had the place to myself. no more than 4 lanes busy at any given time. I'm thinking instead of shooting everybody is "starting" their weekend.

Yes, I was referring to their annual membership. One-time fee, you shoot whenever you want. I believe there's even a higher level that gets you to the front of the line and you can shoot for two hours at a time...DryBones wrote:DiscipleofJMB wrote:NRA is $300 a year for NRA members. Since I live about 20 mins from the NRA, once I have some spare coin I will make the jump to a full annual member.

The $300 is for an annual range membership. Go as many times as you want. You'll trade in your blue range card for a black one. I'm loving mine.
I've been going since last November and it seems that the biggest crowds are during the winter. And your observation is correct. I was the only person there one Friday night a few weeks back - shot for three hours before running out of ammo.
