So I was born and raised in NoVA, I'm 26 now with a wife 2 dogs and a house. We are conservatives, and Christians. My heart has always been in Virginia, however we are starting (I know, I must have been living under a rock or something) to feel more and more out of place. The density of the "progressive and tolerant" blue migrating from MD, DC and NY have ripple effects throughout the state that I believe will ultimately turn us into exactly what they moved away from. NYC is the cancer of NY state, NoVA is the cancer of Virginia. I don't want to abandon my VA brethren, however looking to have kids within a year or two and the last place I want them growing up in is area and the cesspool it has become. Even if we move to SoVA (in which we feel right at home with) we cannot escape the influence FFX, PWC, and Nport News have on the state. So my wife has really been pushing to relocate to Texas, in which I have been giving some serious thought. Ultimately I want to live in a state that reflects my values, morals and has a pillar of integrity and will stand up for their citizens rights. Has anyone else had this thought(s)?
Certainly. Tx, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska. The problem is hat the rot exists in every state in the big cities. I have family in Texas. So that is a logical place to go. I am not ready to abandon the old dominion yet. But if they lean towards passing insane laws here, we will look for a transfer.
As a side note we have four kids ages 1 year to 7 years.

In addition to the wonderful states that MBC offered, I'd throw in Utah and Arizona to the mix. I'm sure between all of those you can find a state with the right population, climate, etc that goes along with your values.
My wife and have lived in northern Virginia for years. At one point, we actually moved to MD, only to come back as quickly as possible -- Maryland is the worst sh*thole I've ever lived in, but not the worst I've visited (I reserve that distinction for NYC). Anyway, we were going to move to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area of Texas because we love Texas and my folks live there -- until family events intervened. Now we're headed to her hometown in North Carolina in the next year or so.
So OP, I hear what you're saying and I feel the same way. Even though we have moved farther south in 2010 to Stafford (which is far enough south to get away from the blue zones), we're ready to leave again because we still have to commute ridiculous distances, and we have family that needs help down south. Being a military transplant originally from Arkansas, North Carolina at least feels like home. I think you would like Texas or Arizona.

Boy do I empathize loud and clear. While there are still areas of Virginia that are sane, the influence of the large population centers cannot be denied. And that is the rub in considering a move...really to anywhere...will the new state eventually suffer from the same problem? I read about Californians relocating to Iowa...they've already taken over places like Colorado.
I was reading some of Chuck Baldwin's writings just yesterday, and hadn't realized that he and his entire clan relocated to Montana just two years ago from Florida. Along with many of the states already suggested, what it came down to in Chuck's final analysis was that Montana didn't have any big cities.
Another bit of wisdom I heard recently is that you want to be at least a tank of gas distant from any population center, in the event of any serious panic or collapse. Not too many places in Virginia fit that bill, but plenty in Texas. One great thing Texas has going for it is a robust economy. It could easily function as a stand-alone country, but that cannot be said for some place like Wyoming.
As Christians, we believe everything going on now are the beginning of end-times events. As such, I'm not expecting the US to recover, sadly. Kicking myself for not starting to prepare in '08, but thankful that we are awake now.

This is an excellent point. California is a progressive-producing machine with a huge population. Over time those people see the dire conditions the state is in and move to other states and yet demand those states to take up failed California policies to be more like "home".
You don't see anything like that on the other side people people who like Texas generally stay in Texas because their policies have generally been successful!
Won't leave until we actually lose the fight. I've lived many places but this is the only one I have truly called home. That being said, if the total collapse comes Ill be gone in a heartbeat with the family and the camper heading for the hills!
I tend to agree with PP. The Ghey wedding at West Point this year tells me this country is toast. If the end of times aren't here, then one can only hope some states, like Texas, split from the Union to carry on the true values of the USA. I will move in a heartbeat.
Timely thread. I was just thinking about a move to Dallas as I flew in this morning. I don't really know much about it other than damned cheap housing and a great economy.

Empower Texans brings rather troubling news that today Texas State House of Representatives Republicans will meet at 1p.m. CT to begin “discussing” caving on Obamacare and expanding Medicaid....
I am not leaving till the fight is lost. I will stay here and fight for as long as possible. But if we do lose, I will pack up the RV, the children and we will head to more friendly venues.

VA is looking to lose between 70-80K jobs FEDERALLY! Now? Remove the business that support them. Yes, it'll hurt, but I think what's going to happen is that "VA PURPLE" is gonna start falling BACK to "VA RED". Give it a couple years, and Texas is nice? But it's not as gun friendly as you think.
Tennessee, Kentucky, and West VA are closer, and very gun friendly

Having lived there for a few years, I like Texas, but politicians are the same everywhere. For gun rights Texas is actually behind VA in some areas (e.g. no open carry); you accidentally print and it's brandishing. The politics around major cities is no where near the myth of Texas.

We can hope, Rev.

West Virginia may be gun friendly (and it has some really nice parks, hunting and fishing), but I can't think of anything else to recommend it as a place to live. The labor and political climate are a lot like Ohio. Not JOB friendly.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.
Why not vote every day with your wallets? Buy from shops which are on our side. Starve the beast.
That requires a bit of effort to compile a white list and a black list. And since I am quite new here, maybe someone can help.

I'm a transplanted Texan who up until recently felt that Virginia was about as far North as I could live, and that the State had much in common with my home State. I find yankees to be impolite whiners for the most part.
My kids are grown now and Virgnia has changed.
