Hello from Falls Church
Hello from Falls Church
New guy here. Accidentally found this forum today looking for some extra magazines for my Sig 229 .40. It's good to know there's yet another forum for us Virginia Gun Owners to interact.
If anyone has any advice on Sig 229 .40 magazines, which brand, where to get them cheapest, etc. I'd sure appreciate it. I bought my Sig in the late 1990's and I'm not sure if any 229 mag will fit or if there is a special classification for older vs. newer generation Sigs.
NOVA Firearms in Falls Church does not answer the phone, and their website doesn't show that they carry them. The genuine Sig mags are quite pricey, but if those are what you all think I should stick with (vs. some aftermarket stuff) I guess I'll have to pay up.
Thanks,
Pup

Welcome to VGOF, Pup

Re: Hello from Falls Church
Thanks.
Hey I just discovered a piece of the Virginia Code that I was unaware of: 18.2-287.4
http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504 ... 18.2-287.4
Is anyone familiar with this? Is this law a restriction on open carry in the areas identified? I noted the 20 round magazine capacity, but still I didn't think there were any restrictions based purely on geography before.
Are there separate restrictions on OCing a rifle in addition to the one above? (Not that I have any plans to in the immediate future, but it would be nice to know.)

Re: Hello from Falls Church
The law restricts carrying with a magazine that holds more than 20 rounds in those areas. If you have your concealed handgun permit it doesn't apply to you wether you are concealed or open carrying. The same law applies to rifles as well. You can't open carry an AK with a 30 round clip in those areas without a CHP. With the permit it's perfectly legal. Otherwise you would need a 20 round magazine.
Re: Hello from Falls Church
And I'm unaware of any other restrictions to carrying a rifle.
Re: Hello from Falls Church
Thanks for the clarification and welcomes. The guys over at VCDL came to the same conclusion about having the CHP (which I have).

Welcome from a newer guy who is on plenty of forums and has written articles for a few I can say this is the best one. You might try cheaperthandirt.com or midwayusa.com for the mags. CTD is good at having old stuff avail. I'll check with my pro Sig students and see if they have any more. If ya go to my site www.tacticaledgeinstitute.com and fill out the contact form with your info & e-mail, and put VA on it so I'll know it's you, I'll get back to you direct.

This is one of the laws that I discuss in my concealed carry class. It confuses everyone, police, magistrates, etc...pupton wrote:Thanks.

It should probably be removed from the Code.
