Is there a range list available?

What range did you visit, what did you shoot, how were you treated, etc. Tell us about your day at the range.

Is there a range list available?

Post by BadgerJack »

Is there a concise list of ranges available?
I just spent a couple hours looking through the posts, and I saw lots of stuff, lots of repeats, and LOTS of abbreviations... some of which I couldn't unravel.
I am a life member of the Izaak Walton League of America, and was a member of the Alexandria Chapter, since the late 70s'.
I decided to forgo rejoining that chapter this year due to the fact that a few years ago the management decided to deny guests on the range- and as far as I can tell against the wishes of the majority, at least according to those members who I spoke to. They are unwilling to change, or even discuss a change, of their viewpoint. Try to bring it up, and they shut you down.
Bringing a guest was ALWAYS a good way to get new members.
The problem is that I have family that lives outside of Virginia, who come through one to three times a year, and it would be [was!] nice to be able to take them to the range for a day of shooting.
But the Bullies-Who-Rule decided it is better to make residents of other states buy a membership to attend a day at the range once or twice a year.
I am not a fast-draw shooter, I am not looking for IDPA, or three gun matches. I need a distance where I can shoot handguns and rifles out to 200~300 yards, slow fire, for accuracy.
So, back to me query: Is there a listing of ranges in Virginia one may peruse to see which might be better accessed, or which might better suit ones needs?
Thanks!
Badger Jack
Good luck, and God Speed.

There is a push by residents around Parksley and Exmore to get range built. I do not know what the current state of the project is. I am a part time resident of Cape Charles at the moment but will retire here sonn, I hope.

Would love to see a list as well that is kept updated too. Like you, Id like to be able to shoot handguns and rifles out to 200 or 300 yards here in central Va.
