BOF- Boring old Farts store?

Post by MrSmitty »

Where, in the Richmond area, is a good gun store for old farts to hang out? I'm in the chesterfield area, and new to Va
We continue to be exasperated by the view, apparently gaining momentum in certain circles, that armed robbery is okay as long as nobody gets hurt! The proper solution to armed robbery is a dead robber, on the scene.

Great question! I'm in Chesterfield too, but I'm finding out that the Richmond area isn't big on gun stores. You would think there would be an Ammunation on every other street corner but sadly that's not the case.

To make things worse, most of the Walmarts don't even put their guns on display. The Walmart on 288 and Hull St does have theirs on display in a locked cabinet, and even a display about knives. Best display I've seen in a Walmart.

There's always Greentop. I could spend days in there - it's like going to Pleasants Hardware when you need a pound of nails and a box of screws...
Now is the time for all good men to get off their rusty dustys...

Dance's Sporting Goods in Colonial Heights. They have a breakfast/lunch counter like the old drug stores used to have. There's always a mix of folks in the store to shop and folks wanting to socialize.
I don't often go in to eat. A while back, though, I took my youngest daughter in for breakfast one morning on the weekend. An elderly couple took a liking to us, and chatted away to us. Eventually, the wife said to my (then) 5-year-old daughter, "Honey, would you like to see Mr. Dance's bear?" She took us back to the boss's office to see his (quite impressive) stuffed bear, as if she owned the place. Mr. Dance was in his office when we arrived, and had no problem with the unannounced visit.

Bob's Sporting Goods on Hull St is always a friendly place to look over some guns and chat with the gentlemen running the place. I won't call them old farts just because I know them, and respect my elders, but they have always been quite friendly to me, and my wife. Plus I remember when I was a kid, my grandfather took me there when we went fishing to buy bait and such. Prices are generally fair, at times high, just depends on what you are looking for. Last thing, I had stopped in maybe a month ago just to look around, and there was an older woman in the store, asking if she could buy a gun to kill herself with. They simply kept her talking, got her husbands number from her, called him to come get her, and explained what was going on. I heard one of them clearly state if they couldn't reach him, they would call the police just to make sure she got some help, and didn't hurt herself. So as you can see a very good bunch of people there.
