Re: "The Range" in Fredericksburg
Always hearing crappy range reports about places in the area makes me happy i got a yard im allowed make a range and shoot in.
Ill add to the dirty gun thing. I went to this place once a few years ago and after firing my guns i thought it would be fun to rent the FA mp5 there. What i received was not the precision instrument made by hk, but instead an mp5 that looked like it was in every major military battle in the 20th century. While fun to shoot, it was a long shot from what it should have been and it should be a downright crime to treat a weapon with such a lack of care.

My next real estate purchase will include at least 5 acres and will be far away from any type of zoning that would inhibit the use of my property to practice the science of gun fire.

I had a SCAR 17 and 16. I also had a bunch of Glocks and a couple H&K pistols. Oh and a DDM4, but I sold everything when our government told me these dangerous tools can actually hurt someone. Apparently they grow legs and go on killing sprees.

And... of course we will be all invited, riiiiight?

Re: "The Range" in Fredericksburg
I live about 7 miles from Clarks, but I usually end up at the NRA. If you are a NRA member, it's only $14 an hour - in 30 minutes at clarks you've already eaten up the 'free range' due to the price of ammo. The folks at Clarks are great, but I cant afford the ammo; you cant draw from a holster; you must sit and fire your rifle - no standing or kneeling. If you want to change the distance for pistol, you have to pack up and move to another booth (if one is available) The rifle benches are placed such that you may have to move to shoot your rifle different distances. But, Clarks is great if you want to sight in @100 yards.
Ha, and you're right - I have yet to go to Clarks and NOT see some yahoo run up and start fiddling with their firearm when the range is cold.

of course. All I ask is everyone that wants to use it bring me a pack or Oreo double stuffed each time you come out. That'll getcha 6 hours as I'd have it available from 1100 to 1700 hours. Of course this is hypothetical mind you.kelu wrote:And... of course we will be all invited, riiiiight?

I have to say I like the hypothetical range fee! Tasty and economical!

Re: "The Range" in Fredericksburg
Sorry to hear about the bad experience at The Range. I have been then often and it does the job with a place to shoot some targets, not very expensive, and close by. My wife and I have both done a transfer through them without any problems. The only thing I would really say is try to avoid the weekends as it is very busy; not sure if that was part of the OP experience. I'm not what anyone would consider a sociable person so I pretty much just go in, shoot, and leave although Paul has always been fine with me, my wife, and daughter any time we have gone it.

It was a Tuesday around 1 or 2pm. Maybe he was trying to be "cool" in front of his friends. Well, that one guy that was there near the counter that is. He might be one of the few people that was born and raised here before it got so populated and he knew that I wasn't from here because of my drawl. Maybe he just thinks a thick southern drawl = stupid. Whatever the case, he'll never see a dime from me. Sucks for him because I have 2 or 3 laying around here somewhere.

Re: "The Range" in Fredericksburg
Went here for the first time yesterday. I was very displeased with the service as well as how they keep the place. Looks like a sh!+ whole as soon as you walk in the door. It was also rediculous how nothing had a price labled on it. I asked how much the rate was & I was told " you get charged by the 1/2 hr" how is that awnsering my question??? The really really messed up part is that I went with 4 other people. Now get this. I paid for myself, had my own targets, my own ears, & my own eyes. I bought 3 boxes of 9mm ammo my total was 53.xx The other 4 people were paid for by 1 person. They all had no eyes, ears, targets, or ammo plus they rented a gun. They also had 3 boxes of ammo. The total for them was 99$!!!!!!
WTF kind of rip off is that!?!? Did i mention that the person who paid for 4 people also paid for the two lanes we were in? I seriously got ripped off. How is it possible for me to pay more than half of what 4 others total up to be for the same amount of time & ammo. The difference is i did not rent a lane, rent a gun, rent eye protection, or rent ear protection. All four of them did (1 rented a gun)
Thanks but lessoned learned.
Plus I couldnt shoot half the guns I brought with me!

I invite everyone to come to the range with me. It's as simple as letting me know what day you want to meet up.

I'm really surprised there are no indoor ranges in va that will support a rifle round besides the nra range.

I think there are several. Colonial Shooting Academy, Silver Eagle, and I think Blue Ridge Arsenal as well (they claimed they could accommodate up to .30 cal last time I was in there, three or four years ago).vaeevictiss wrote:I'm really surprised there are no indoor ranges in va that will support a rifle round besides the nra range.

Re: "The Range" in Fredericksburg
So heres my experience with "The Range"
I was in the market for a Glock 19. I had called numerous places that offered LE pricing on Glocks. Unfortunately the range was the first place I called. I explained to the man on the phone that I heard Glock did discount for LEO and Military and wanted to know how I can go about getting it at that price. After I finished talking, the man rudely replied "You have to be 21 years old, are you even 21?, you need to be a resident of VA" and such and such. Do I sound like a child on the phone or is this guy just a tool I wondered. I got a very bad vibe from that place so I politely thanked him for his time and got off the phone.
I finally purchased my Glock 19 from SSG Tactical in Fredericksburg. I was so excited and couldn't wait to shoot it. Clark's brother was out of the way so I decided to give The Range another shot. When I got there, The place didn't seem like it was open. I checked their site for normal business hours and it should have been open. Tried calling but no answer, the place really seem sketched out. I didn't even know where the entrance was!
I don't think I'll be going to "The Range" again.

Re: "The Range" in Fredericksburg
Saray, I hear you 5x5. The Range, unfortunately, is the closest to me being about 5 miles from my house. I stopped in there once and saw a place that anyone with even secondhand knowledge of firearms and cleanliness would say is unsat. I left and got a tetanus shot.
From your post, I would guess you're active duty Marines? If so, have you tried the Quantico Shooting Club? Only problem with it is the odd shooting times available. I may try Range 82 next, but it's about 30 miles away.
Hard to believe there's not more ranges closer to Stafford/Fredericksburg.

Re: "The Range" in Fredericksburg
Unfortunately, I am getting rid of my precious Glock 19. So the hunt for a good range is over.
When the time is right to purchased another firearm, hopefully a range will open right down the street from where I live.

I go fairly often to "The Range". I agree it is dingy and the old man is grumpy...but then so am I. I get along with the owner just fine. I think that listening to "pow...bang...pow" all day long may make your tissue soften up a bit. Give the guy a break. Ya know he aint running a surgical tent.
I went out to Range 82...way the hell up the road. When I pulled into the area the guy that leases the place set upon me and my vehicle like a mountain lion, but once he found out I was interested in becoming a member he calmed down a bit. The problem with 82 is they seem to want to cater to only leo. Fine, go ahead. In the fall and the winter the place ain't hardly open except to leo and the annual fee is crazy for getting the use only on weekends fighting for a lane with all the other "members".
Been to NRA too. Quite a haul from Fredericksburg. Phelps is opening in September. I suspect I will be sighting in quite a bit. For the handgun I will continue with The Range.

Re: "The Range" in Fredericksburg
Sorry I missed your post.If you ain't found it yet, it is up 17 about 15 miles north of 95. Google CF Phelps WMA. It is a really nice rifle range. You can shoot pistols but they need to be scoped. They have 25 50 and 100 yards. The people that shoot police themselves. Very safe and polite group of shooters. It is open every day except Monday. You will need your own targets and you should buy an access pass. It is 23 bucks for the year but it is good at any WMA in Virginia for any part of the WMA. The fee defrays the cost of rebuilding the target frames.
