Firearms banned on Army Core of Engineer Land?

ALL,

Again I consult to guru's. I am planning a camping/fishing trip and found this site listing that "firearms are prohibited in all park areas and all regulations are strictly enforced." I am troubled by this regulation, especially in Virginia.

SITE: http://www.saw.usace.army.mil/philpott/ ... ations.htm

Can anyone shed any intel on this? Has anyone been down to the smith river? Are we allowed to carry there while fishing? I could have sworn that this land is public use/recreation and therefore holds no ability to restrict civilian possession of firearms. I could be wrong?

All comments are welcomed.

Thanks,

SC

Good question, because the new law causes the rules in STATE parks/forest to be the same as NATIONAL parks/forest.

Is this a new cause we need to take up, or an error on the website?

The Army Core of Engineer land was not included in the National Parks Bill that allows carry on NPS land. IIRC there is a bill in Congress to address this issue, but as of now carry on USACE land is a no go.

Just a heads up for you, it is the Army Corps of Engineers, spellcheck won't catch it if you use a real word.

Dang Brain Farts. That's what I get for not taking the time to proof read before hitting send.

Legislation Will Protect Gun Rights on Army Corps of Engineers Land
http://gunowners.org/a08242011.htm
Currently, guns are prohibited on Corps land, even when firearms possession is otherwise allowed by state law. Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-OH) introduced legislation—the Recreational Lands Self-Defense Act (H.R. 1865)—to allow state law to govern firearms possession.
The Corps said, in a statement: “Public Law 111-024 does not apply to Corps projects of facilities . . . [and the Army Corps] will continue to prohibit loaded concealed weapons on Corps properties regardless of the new law and notwithstanding any contrary provisions of state law.”
