Over in another section of this forum, someone asked about reading recommendations. The Foxfire series was mentioned, along with the observation that it would make a great guide book for SHTF.

I discovered that the 1st three of the series was available for free download and printing. Here is the link:

In these books you will find gardening tips, tips on eating wild vegetation, complete instruction on the production of moonshine, bee sting/bug bite remedies, constructing log cabins with chimneys, as well as a host of other info on simple but productive living that requires no electricity.

I'd recommend looking into these books; the price is right :)

I have some of the books - and they will be more useful from a mindset standpoint than anything else. I should let my oldest boy read them.

Once upon a time, I had the first three. Then book 2 and book 3 disappeared. I managed to hang onto book 1 up until a year ago, which was the most useful of the three. I was happy to find them online.

By the way, the bee sting remedy with tobacco and cigarette papers found in Foxfire 1 really works. I was camping with my ex one time (and she was deathly allergic to bee stings) and she got stung. I remembered that trick from Foxfire, applied it, and within a couple of hours, there was no sign of her being stung.
