A warm hearted 10 year old rescues a baby bird from certain death in the jaws of a feline. Her reward from a do nothing gov't official that obviously had nothing better to do with her time than harass children and their parents--a $500 fine and possible jail time for mom. Why are we paying people to be stupid? If I could I would fine that lady for wasting my money on prosecuting children for rescuing animals. It was obvious that the situation had be rectified by the time she arrived with a state trooper to issue the fine, all she had to do was educate, but instead she decided to be a power hungry....and assert her authority. What utter nonsense, and it is because of wastefulness and stupid laws like this that we are going down the drain.

The fact that this was here in VA burns me up all the more.

I hate bureaucrats... and red tape... and bullies in the guv'mint. With their smug attitude, and pretentious "know-it-all' attitude.

How about this?

The Government is attempting to cut 71 million of FAA subsidies but will lose 1 billion in revenue due to the airline related taxes it is responsible for collecting.

They seem to have backpedaled a bit from this AM when the dept was not returning phone calls. It seems they don't have their paperwork straight and that was the "mix up." I love how the state troopers basically said "not my bag." At any rate hopefully there will be peace for the family.

These cases of bureaucrats persecuting children are almost always thrown out by judges.

And yes, these idiotic power displays are aggravating....but not why we're in debt.

How much did it cost for all the bungling that has gone on in cases like these? I don't know, but I would bet it is not cheap. I am sure it is not the *only reason we are in debt, but it sure does not help. If this agency has nothing better to do than to write tickets which they then have to rescind when they wind up looking like a donkey then perhaps they have too much time on their hands and perhaps we should look at the precious public resources they are using.

Between the TSA buying and using useless expensive scanners. The FDA and the CDC pursuing small dairies in PA, and food clubs in CA. The ATF harassing people who legally bought two handguns in TX. All these things cost $$ and lots of it and serve no purpose but to harass law abiding citizens. So yeah it is a part of why we are in debt. Sometimes I think hitting the debt ceiling and not extending it would not be so bad...it would force those in gov't to not waste money and stupid stuff. Yeah I know other bad stuff would happen, but it might just cut down on gov't abuse because the gov't would not have the resources to abuse anymore.

Not quite. The Republicans in Congress are trying to end subsidies to commuter carriers who are flying virtually empty planes (in many cases) thanks to legislation which pays them thousands of dollars per passenger to fly those empty planes at taxpayer expense. They also want to make it more difficult for airline employees to unionize. So it's not "the government" per se, it's politics as usual. It's not like the government is "losing money" because it's not their money to begin with. It's money taken from taxpayers.
