I really want a good "assult rifle" as my next gun and cannot seem to find anything else in .223 or 7.62 other than ars and aks,What guns some different types of guns in these calibers?

Bushmaster ACR's are beautiful. FN SCAR's are nice too. Then there's FAL's which is an older design but I think its nickname: "The right hand or the free world" is timeless

i personally do not like then, they are not reliable enough for my standards... they're extremely cheap, not just in price, you just need to hold one to see. the two that i shot had headspace issues and mags didn't fit properly, so there were feeding issues. those were the main problems, but had i broke one down i'm sure i'd find more.
i'd wait and save more cash to 'invest' in something of a bit more quality, that's my advice.

for that money I'd be looking at a gunshow for an AK47 clone. I see them for $500 and a little less quite often. So far the WASR10 version I bought a couple of years ago hasn't had a single malfunction (only about 500 rounds throught it). Good surplus magazines are available for slightly more than AR magazines. Steel cased Wolf (or other communist block ammo) 7.62X39 is available in quantity at gun shows or ordred of the internet.

AK would be my recommendation for your budget. Reliable and much more punch than a .223/5.56 AR...

beaver, i would skip century arms all together...they sell the bottom of the barrel romainian's. spend a tad more cash and get something like an arsenal inc SGL21 tactical for around 700. trust me on this one... mine is 3 years old w/ 1000's of rounds fed and zero fail.

At your price point you are really limiting your options. You've stricken any ARs, as well as any new wonder rifles like the SCAR
Your options at that price point:
SKS (Yugoslavian Never-been-Issued rifles can be found for like $350, and are great shooters, I have one and love em.)
or
Century Arms WASR-10 (this AK clone is alright, but there are better. I'd find a friend who knows AKs extremely well and go to a shop that has several of these in stock and examine them before buying, because most of them are crooked or don't fit any mags or are just shoddy, but you can find a good one if you look hard or get lucky.)
If you could save up to about an ~$850 price range you could get yourself an EXCELLENT Spikes Tactical M4 or an EXCELLENT Arsenal SGL21 or SGL31 AK.

You can probably get an SKS, a couple dozen stripper clips, and at least 1000 rounds of ammo for maybe $600 if you shop hard enough. What part of VA do you hail from?
