What would be a good 17hmr rifle to get and how much should one pay for ammo?

lets go with either a semi auto or bolt action!Jakeiscrazy wrote:Semi ammo, bolt action, lever action, what action type? I know you can buy 17 HMR barrels and parts for 10/22.
Others will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure that the .17HMR conversion is only for 10/22 Magnum rifles. Maybe you're thinking of .17 HM2?Jakeiscrazy wrote: I know you can buy 17 HMR barrels and parts for 10/22.

Beav, .17 HMR means more expensive ammo. Are you willing to spend the money?
Yep turns out your right after a little more searching. Apparently I got .17HM2 and .17HMR confused. 17HM2 can be swapped into a normal 10/22 with a heavier charging handle added but .17HMR can only be swapped in 10/22 Mag only. I wouldn't be shocked to find out all of these kits have feed issues so it may be best to stick to a gun made of .17HMR.Diomed wrote:Others will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure that the .17HMR conversion is only for 10/22 Magnum rifles. Which means bolt action, and maybe lever action - semiautos and .17 HMR (and .22WMR) don't seem to get along very well.Jakeiscrazy wrote:I wouldn't be shocked to find out all of these kits have feed issues so it may be best to stick to a gun made of .17HMR.
