I wasn't that impressed with the first season. Wooden acting, hackneyed plotting and writing that made the wooden characters unsympathetic (every episode had me chanting "they all deserve to die" at the television), and the season finale was just lame.
It appears to take place in some kind of alternate universe where there are still dumb rednecks in Georgia, but they don't have any guns. How else could the zombies have won? The lack of firepower - and the inappropriateness of what they do have - makes me think it's being made by Brits or something.

The graphic novels are 100 times better (more action and somehow better acting).
I'm amazed they had the stupid CDC scene that never happened...they're following books...so the script is kind of already written for them.

They've said that they'll follow the comics except when they don't feel like it. Which apparently explains the finale. (If the rest of the season was like the comics, they must be hella boring.)

The way they went with the season finale (the CDC thing) seemed kind of silly but I definitely enjoyed the season overall. I'm looking forward to the next one for sure. That, and Gold Rush Alaska....the man soap opera

The future's looking rough for this show - AMC cut their budget and fired the showrunner. They want fewer outdoor shots and fewer zombies (all that makeup costs money!). Oh well, it was pretty borderline to begin with.

They said this months ago that they cut the budget. The guy that took over is one of the writers that was also the Assistant Director. He was already directing some of the shows, so it won't be any different.
Several interviews with the Producer's and actors have stated that nothing is changing too much, they are still doing what they had planned with the show. We will see though.
This is from an "insider" about Frank Darabont :
Though at least one insider conceded that Darabont was “notoriously a pain in the ass” who had trouble adapting to television’s faster-paced production schedule, it appears that most of the sources believe the axing came down to a matter of money.
I find it pretty amusing that the cast are now scared of being fired, haha because of this quote:
One source pointed out, “They’re on a zombie show. They are all really easy to kill off.”

Yes, Robert Kirkman is the author of the Comic series and is also one of the Producers for the show. He has stated numerous times that they are not going to follow the comics 100% and may add or subtract some things to make it more appealing to a tv audience.
