I applied for my CHP today...

Post by Hiwaytahell »

...and it did not suck.

City of Alexandria.

Everyone I dealt with was helpful and polite through the entire experience. All the people at the clerks office were very pleasant. So where the people doing the finger printing.

Not a bad day at all.

Waiting for day 46

Does it usually take the full 45 days in your area? I live in Buchanan Cty. and from the day I turned in the application at the courthouse to the day I received my permit was only 8 days.

I must have been lucky... only waited thirty days for mine. I guess it just depends on the workload.

There is no reason this could not happen sooner. The background check takes minutes to do.

Congrats! I applied for my CHP in the City of Alexandria on 17 May, did fingerprinting on 18 May, card was issued 11 June, I received it in the mail on 13 June. I guess that makes it about 26 days. I have heard that they like to take the full 45 so I was pleasantly surprised.

I agree that everyone was really great throughout the whole process. Great service and personnel at the City Courthouse.

Mine took 43 days in VB. Oh well, all that matters is that I have it now, right?

My pleasure. As Rick said, the law states that they must issue it to you within 45 days. Mark your calendar. In the meantime I recommend you study the carry laws and get your gear ready so you can move out smartly as soon as it arrives.

I'm surprised that you had to do fingerprints in Alexandria. I'm here in Prince William county and I didn't have to do the fingerprints. I guess its all up to the location your in and their guidelines. I will tell you though, I did have to wait the full 45 days for mine. Just got it in the mail yesterday!!!

The Lady that did my finger printing told me they had alot of applications lately.
That's why I figured it would take the full amount of time.
