Which N. Va range has the best rental selection?

A friend is looking for a new CC, and I'd like to take him where he could try several different types. He's looking to shoulder carry (what he's used to from his Army days), so he's looking for something fairly compact. Suggestions for a range in the N. Va area that has a good rental selection?

By the way - I took my son the The Range last week and we rented a Ruger MkIII .22 and a Walther P22 for him to play with (it was his first time shooting). They also had a Glock .45 and a .44 Magnum in the rental case. There were several others (Probably 20 or so, total) that I didn't bother to identify.

Did he like the Ruger or Walther better? I'm trying to decide which one I want to get. I've heard good things about the Ruger, but like the look and feel of the Walther.

He's too young to know what he likes. I personally like the Walther better from a look and feel standpoint, but I'd have to say that the Ruger is a better firearm.

Check out Gilberts Small Arms Range down in Lorton. Their rental and purchase selection blows out both Blue Ridge (Obama Supporters) and "The Range" in Stafford. While "The Range" has some good rental options, they stock almost nothing in terms of guns for purchase.

Gilberts is good, as it's close to my work. Dont you have to be "members" to use the range?

Yup, everyone who shoots there has to be a member. A monthly membership is $10, with a $10 range fee every time you use the range. You can also get half-year and full-year memberships (I think) for a pretty good price (what is it, like $250ish?) and not have to pay the $10 range fee. If you use the range twice a month ($30/mo, $360/year), you've more than broken even.
The range itself is a decent handgun range, 20-ish yards, adjustable lighting, and a simple wire-target carrier system.
$10 to rent as many guns as you want, per hour (you have to buy and use their ammo, though).
It's where I got my first taste of .357 Magnum and .454 Casull =)

Gilberts also gives some sort of purchase discount to yearly members.

Gilberts now Sharpshooters has a good rental selection- however, the store and range have ZERO customer service. Read on....

Gilberts is not as bad as you say. You had a poor experience and that is certainly rotten. Many others have decent experiences there. No they arent the ideal place to go, but no where is. I will be a repeat customer until I find someplace else that is convenient with a good selection of guns and a range.

Hey Moss20, I'd like to first say that I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but I also wanted to say this. I've never personally shot the Ruger, I understand that its a fine pistol. I have however fired the Walther and enjoyed it so much that I bought one for my wife. My son and I rented the Walther at Blue Ridge and had so much fun with it that before we knew it we had shot up 200 rounds. That is not an easy feat when we only had one magazine and its a 10 rounder. Anyways we enjoyed it so much that I bought one from Trader Jerry's at the most recent Gun Show. Well worth the money. My wife loves it and we are even thinking about a second one for my boys to share.
Just my two cents on the subject.
