Hi everyone. Here's my MP5 clone. It started as a pistol (Dakota Tactical D54P-N) which I quickly filed a Form 1 for and converted to a SBR. I added a German collapsable stock and a Surefire forearm. And while the stock iron diopter sights were pretty easy to use, I added an Aimpoint red dot on a low profile mount which makes shooting at the range that much more fun. I think I am finally done!

That is one sick looking sub gun!

I know! I have the funds but just having a hard time pulling the trigger (pardon the pun) on a registered sear -- it's a lot of money!

I actually got a couple of leads from the HKPro guys. One is for a Fleming sear that is currently in a 4-position G3 pack. That one is selling for $12,500. The second is for an all-German sear. The seller claims this is better because it won't have any timing issues (?) and since it is all-German I can easily replace parts for cheap. The downside is it costs $15,000!

I really want one but I am having a hard time with the price. I guess I could get one and worst case sell it for as much as I paid for it and recoup my costs since these really shouldn't lose value. Unless, of course, Obama legalizes sears and the prices plummet to $600. Ha!

The second one sounds like a registered pack housing. Both prices are in the right ballpark.

The advantage of #2 is that it uses all factory parts, which is a plus. The other big one, is all the 'wear' parts are readily replaceable.

Now the sear I picked up had 30-40K rounds through it, and it was just barely starting to show a bit of polishing where the other parts rub on it, so I REALLY thing the wear parts deal is over hyped.

BTW if you got a bare sear and wanted it put into a burst pack, you're looking at over $1k in parts & labor, so the sear in pack for 12.5k seems like a reasonable deal.

The price on NFA stuff got inflated with the recent economy bubble and has come down, and been holding steady for the last year or so. I think the people who really needed to sell at any price have, and the market is showing trends of price increase. If you have the $$$ and have been thinking about it, now isn't a bad time.

I'm not very up to date on Class 3. If you buy a full auto sear can you swap it between all you HKs legally or are you required to keep it in the same one.

There can be some situations where the sear is 'married' to the host, but in most cases it can be divorced.

A 'free' sear can be moved between the 9x (91, 93, 94) series guns.

If your going to buy a sear then I would commit to HK!

Hey Bryan,

My Dakota Tactical D54P-N (made by Joe a.k.a. Chopstix Kid on HKPro.com) is great. I can't say enough good things about it. You can have Joe build you one from a parts kit which takes about 4 months or get one now from HKParts.net. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Where do you shoot? I switch between Silver Eagle Group in Ashburn and the NRA HQ Range. Let me know next time you go to the range and maybe I'll join you. I'll bring the MP5 and MP5K and you can bring your own ammo (I usually just get Winchester white box from WallyMart.)

Oh, to answer your question regarding tax stamps... I filed a Form 4 for an MP5K-PDW SBR I bought from Loudon Guns at the end of February. It took a while for the the Form 4 to go to "pending" status and I was getting antsy so I bought the MP5 pistol to have something to shoot while the MP5K-PDW sat locked in the dealer's safe. I filed the Form 1 for the MP5 five weeks after the original Form 4 filing.

Wouldn't you know it, both applications went pending within a week of each other and both got approved at the same time! So, the Form 4 took about 9 weeks and the Form 1 took just a little over 3 weeks. I used an NFA trust for both.

BATFE recently changed the way they assign applications to inspectors. Instead of going alphabetically by name (last name or the name of the trust), they now assign by state. The good news (I think) is that VA applications now go to Dana Pickles who handled my applications, and who I've been told, processes them pretty quickly. We'll see if this continues to be the case.

I'll definitely take you up on your offer sometime soon! I have too many calibers running around in handgun and rifle and I've been thinking of just going 9mm and the MP5 or 45 and the UMP.

My check cleared BATF mid-march for my can so I'm hoping my stamp comes through very soon!!! I was going to pick up a .22 silencer but I think I might have to go with a SBR!

that's incorrect, the fleming sears work excellent. the fleming 'h' is most desireable. s&h is junk. i own hk, fleming and qualified sears and all work flawlessly...speaking from experience.
