Virginia Gun Owners Forum - VGOF

After many threads in these boards, it is now clear to me that few of you right wingers are interested in working with liberal gun owners. Rightwingers here won't take any subject seriously and are only interested in insulting, dehumanizing, slandering, and ridiculing Dems and Liberals. There is no serious discussion of gun laws, and instead fundamentalist beliefs that removes all rules on guns and creates an anarchistic wild west society.

Jokes, insults, name-calling, off-topic interjections, lies, slander, and insulting the President of the United States, calling the President unAmerican, calling anyone from the left a communist, socialist, pig, etc.

I have not called anyone a name or insulted anyone, although I have called your BAD BEHAVIOR when I see it: insulting, bad manners, un-neighborly, uncivil, arrogant, disrespectful, etc.

It is all SHAMEFUL behavior. We live in a CIVIL SOCIETY, not the wild, wild west.

NO inquisitioner here has been polite or well-mannered, with perhaps the exception of Zephyp on a good day. The quote that Heinlen wrote about an armed society being a polite society is a lie and is clearly not true....you all have proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt. Instead, you think guns give you the right to be uncivil, insulting, arrogant, and disrespectful and un-neighborly. The guns instead result in justification for bad behavior.

OK, enough. We live in America, not Mexico. Please call a good-mannered friend and ask them to teach you all good manners and how to be neighborly and how to hold a conversation with someone who you disagree without insulting them and being rude and walking away.

No one can recognize the willingness of Dems and Liberals to work on gun liberalization because you are so blinded by arrogance, hate, and denial.

I AM an example of a liberal who wants to see gun liberalization...not anarchy mind you, but liberalization. Liberals like personal freedoms, and philosophically is the same with guns. Why is that so hard to believe?

The point here is if you could just take the blinders off and hold your emotions at bay and actually give us a chance, we can work together.

So what you are really doing is sacrificing the opportunity to liberalize guns laws, In it's place, you wasting your time and political capital on the political enjoyment of bashing Dems and liberals.

So, GUns are really secondary to the ultra-right political purpose of VGOF.

What a waste.

We have all seen this act before. "Liberals want personal freedom." expect when it comes to my choice to not buy health care or my chioce to own a "assault weapon". I realize you yourself may not be for these registions of freedoms, but your friends are.

The "Liberals for Guns" thing is getting old. At some point your going to have a make a choice at the polls. Do you vote for the conservative supporting gun rights, or the liberal aginst them? If you vote for the liberal you are NOT a supporter of gun rights.

Unfortunately, although you may be a liberal who wants to see firearms laws relaxed, the party that you are allied to is completely and totally against you.

Let's say that you, a liberal, happen to become a US senator. You have viewpoints about gun laws that the leadership of the Democratic part will not allow. If you try to buck their system by voting the way you truly feel, you will be black-balled and run out of town.

Anyone who wants to see gun laws "liberalized" is foolish to vote for a democrat (generally speaking).

Is it just me or does this strike anyone else as one of those mutually exclusive situations? More laws equal more freedoms? How exactly does that work? I'm just a dumb right-winger hillbilly, apparently...

I beg to differ. In fact you created an unproven assertion and bias in this very statement as you have done in many of your posts. In case you missed it: "fundamentalist beliefs that removes all rules on guns and creates an anarchistic wild west society." So much for the lying, name calling, uncivil, unneighborly, disrespectful, insulting, etc. behavior not being from you, eh?

Searching you posts I can find lots of early posts where serious gun related discussions occurred. Things went downhill when you attempted to prove a point by lying about the history of liberalism. You never provided a counter argument, you just attacked the messenger and exhibited all of those bad manners you're so stuck pinning on us. Yes, it has degraded since then, but by and large that's because you continued to push whine and people caught on. Your idea of a well stated position and/or argument have been comical and some people have decided to not justify it with a reasonable response.

As I stated in the first one sided argument we had on this forum, you earn respect and by and large you have not IMHO. You attacked and whined even about the forums self-acknowledged socialist. At least he isn't so afraid of his ideas and their history to demand irrationality!

Much like respect, the status of civility in a society is earned. A society which arbitrarily prohibits self-defense so as to degrade human beings and arbitrary restriction of their natural rights is just as bad as one which forces people of another skin color to ride at the back of the bus...both are not civilized in that area.

That's because your definition of being polite, respectful, etc. means never questioning the unending BS that flows forth from your mouth. Anyone who disagrees with you, even our avowed socialist, is un-American according to you. In the real world people are going to disagree with you and that doesn't make them inferior to you...or rude.



In summary, when you discussed guns things went fine. When you started demanding that people eat your BS, they objected to it and you went off the deep end insulting everyone.

There are certainly a few Democrats that are pro gun rights. The NRA supports these Democrats in general elections. The problem comes in the courts. Currently the liberals do not have enough votes in Congress to get anti-gun bills passed, but they do have enough support in the courts to get things done the way they want. We currently have a 5-4 split on the Supreme Court in regards to gun rights. The lower courts even with the Heller decision are trying to limit the 2nd amendment rights as much as possible (well except Puerto Rico). We hope these reverses in the district and appeals courts will make it to the Supreme Court before one of the pro votes retires or dies. The pro gun Democrat Senators have not shown any reluctance to voting for obvious anti-gun nominees in the past, I do not see that changing. At the local level the Democrats in the State Senate have stalled many very good pro-gun bills in the last couple of years. They do not have enough power to kill everything, so some liberation has occurred. Even if the particular senators that are troublesome can not be defeated, due to heavily liberal districts, their buddies in more conservative areas can. If the Republicans retake the Senate these Senators have almost no power left. For that reason I would vote for a republican over a democrat almost always.
