So on the 27th of May I had my truck inspected. This morning I'm heading to work and a police car whips behind me at a stop light on Broad Street and turns his lights on. I had done nothing wrong as was not speeding so when I pulled over (immediately) and shut my truck off I was wandering if they found Hoffa under my couch. As the police officer walked up to my truck he showed trepedation and spoke to me from behind my front door. I didn't even get to ask why he pulled me over before he said," Good morning sir, I pulled you over because you have a tail light that's out. I asked which one and stated that I had just had my truck inspected 3 or 4 days ago. He told me which one it was and I showed him my inspection slip and license. He took my license went back to his patrol car. After about 1 minute he came back handed my license back to me and told me to have a nice day! I have to say +1 for the VCU police dept on this one.

I thought for sure that was going to turn into a horror story at any second! Glad it turned out good!

Glad to hear it turned out fine. Was there really a tail light out?

Most of the VCU Cops are actually nice guys, you have your few "FIFES", but they're rare.

You know, people knock RPD quite a bit, but I absolutely love the patrol cops for the most part. Their Admins? M'eh.

Sounds like a overaggressive "Click-it or Ticket" stop to me.

If he had a legitimate equipment violation, how does that sound like an overaggressive "Click-it or Ticket" stop???

Step 1: Spot a primary violation to justify stopping to check for seat belt use.

Step 2: Check for seat belt use.

Step one: pull over motorist.

Step two: manufacture violation.

Because the police are just revenue collectors for the DMV, right?

So glad you had a decent fellow that let you know about something you would likely not know about otherwise without the fine. Most LEO's are amazing public servants that risk much for not that great of compensation. There are a few pain the rears, but that is the case in any job. Glad yours was nice.

A Virginia State Police Officer pulled me over for an alleged faulty taillight. When the officer approached me, I handed him my driver's license, insurance card and my concealed weapon carry permit. The officer took all the documents, looked them over and said. "Mr. F, I see you have a CHP. Do you have any weapons with you?" I replied, " Yes sir, I have a Beretta 45 in a hip holster, a Beretta 9mm in the glove box and a Storm Sub Compact in my boot."

The officer looked at me and asked, "Anything else?" "Yes sir, I have a Mossberg 500 12 gauge and an AR-15 behind the seat."

The officer asked me if I was driving to or from a shooting range and I replied “no”, so the officer bent over and looked into my face and said "Mr. F, you're carrying quite a few guns. May I ask what you are afraid of?"

I locked eyes with the officer and calmly answered, "Not a blessed thing!"

Step three: ask for license and registration

Step four: (from the driver or victim of police):
A. Offer courteous response to LEO questions or
B. Show contempt to LEO and be offended.

Step five: A. have Officer run information and return to your car to tell you about the offense you committed, equipment violation, etc., hope his day is good enough that he gives you a warning but possibly receive a ticket or
B. have the Officer request your insurance information and noting every possible equipment violation that your car has from exhaust leaks to bald tires, lights out, improper window tint ( "Oh, I am sorry sir that looks a little to dark and it is a film tint, you will have to wait here until my supervisor comes out with the department's lone tint-meter").

You see individual B through his choices is guilty of an unwritten, unprosecutable term "Contempt of COP", it all could have been avoided with a little courtesy. Individual B thinks all LEOs are out to get him and finds that his beliefs are reinforced by stops such as this one. He believe he is the victim of some great revenue generating apparatus, not his own preconceived notions about law enforcement.

And cops come to his house in the morning to piss in his Cheerios, but not every morning.

In answer to the question, yes my rear passenger tailight had just gone out. I replaced it that night when I got home from work and have had no problems since. About the seat belt enforcement, he couldn't have seen if I was wearing a seat belt because of where he stood while interviewing me. I thought it was actually decent that he didn't try to peek in to see if I was wearing a seat belt. I drive a four wheel drive Dodge Ram with four doors. He stood at the rear driver's side door the whole time we spoke.

last time i heard that story it took place in AZ...and "Blessed" was not the work used.
