Yup, I've managed to get through life without a $400 phone and a $100+ per month phone bill so far.

Virgin mobile has a good Android smart phone for like 180 bucksand you get unlimited data and 300 minutes of talk for 25 bucks a month; best deal out there. No contract either.

I've got unlimited internet, text, and talk for $50 a month. My phone, which sports a qwerty keypad, camera, and decent screen (for eyes like mine) cost about $60.

Considering how spread out my friends and family are, the unlimited talk time is awesome. Also, the text is useful for communicating with my sister, who has poor reception. Her phone can't always get calls, but gets text.
