Started as a turkey hunt. I found myself in the middle of wild hogs.

I would rather shoot Hog's then Turkeys. Nice hogs, just the right size for the grill or to make into sausage.

There are a few in the southeast in and near the swamps, and a few in the western piedmont. By "a few" I mean maybe a couple hundred, they're pretty rare. Hogs are not much of an issue in Virginia.

This fellow had good luck near the swamps in Louisiana...

I've heard there's a few good size groups of them around Culpeper, and they're staying north of the Rapidan River.

Where in the western piedmont? I'd be very interested in having a go at some bacon.

Since my original post, we have found the hog population here is growing and expanding.
In August we live-trapped a small sow with 10 piglets. They're now all in a pen being fattened up. Just last week, my neighbor's son shot this +300 lb. boar that none of us had previously seen. We are in Lee County near the KY border on private property owned by someone who wants them gone. We have been deer hunting there for years and had never seen evidence of hogs until this past spring.

It's a pig invasion!

Time to repel boar-ders!

Man, something about the taste of pork and the idea of seeing a big wild pig in the woods makes me want to sight in my rifle...
