So I sold my 18" heavy barrel so I can put a smaller lighter barrel on my AR.
I really want a 14.5" on there, but you have to buy them "Pin & Welded" with the muzzle accessory already on there from the factory.
My problem is that I have a Daniel Def. 12.0 LiteRail and that would put the gas port hole and obviously the gas block under the forearm somewhere. I can fit a low pro block under there, but with it welded from the factory, how do you get a gas block on there?
I have yet to find a split bolt / low pro gas block.
Anyone ever dealt with this?

It has also been my impression that you can not install a non-factory gas block on any gun due to the way the pins line up. You can however grind down your factory one.

You are going to be purchasing the barrel from somebody like Bravo Coompany (BCM) with the flash supressor already pinned and welded. Why not contact them and have them install the low profile gas block before they pin and weld it? It just seem like it would be easier to buy it already done, they just may have to have the barrel nut on before they install the gas block.

That's an interesting point... Although I had a MI low-pro gas block installed on a BCM 18" heavy barrel under my Daniel D. rail and after a few weeks of break-in I never had mis-fires or problems with my gas system ever.
I know that Brownell's sells a dimple set device just for this purpose though.
It's a good thing to take into consideration before you get 100% assembled.
