We went to the Hampton location to look for something for the wife as a carry gun. We were given the passes to try out a bunch of stuff.

A&P lets you swap out as much as you want as long as its the same caliber which is really nice. They also have you do a small test to make sure that you have read the range rules. At least you know the ones around you are some what intelligent.

I did like the range stalls better than the ones at the Marksman in Newport News. There was more room for ammo and the gun on the top and had some storage for targets, more ammo, and the wife's purse. The automatic target (holder for the lack of a better term) actually worked and was nice and tight so no swaying.

We both shot a variety of things
9mm - Ruger LC9, Sig P239, FN (something) and Sig P239 again.
45 - Sig P220 and Para GI Expert 1911

On a side note
This was the first time I shot a 1911 properly and did a 5" grouping at 15m. Markedly better than anything else, and I am trying to figure out why. The wife did really well with it as well.

BTW she picked the P239, now to save up for it.

Assuming a properly working example, 5" at 15m is certainly not the limits of the handgun. You shot it better for some reason and it could be nothing more than your skill increasing or getting lucky (is it repeatable?).

I know the gun is capable of better, this was just my best. I started at 20ft to then moved to 10yards (sorry not meters). At 20ft the grouping was really small and at 10 yards it wasnt much larger than it was at 20ft. I shot about a box of ammo so I dont think it was a fluke. Would like to try one out again and see if I do just as well.

I am thinking, as mentioned in one of my other threads, it could just be ergonomics etc. A 1911 has definitely made it onto my short list.

The grip angles get me when moving between my 1911 and a Glock. I either point the Glock high or the 1911 low depending on the transition.
