The wife is coming around about going to the range to shoot some and she mentioned that we need something better than my beretta case and a second hard case for ammo and ear protection.

I was wondering if anybody had any good suggestions for a range bag that could carry 2-3 handguns and anything else that would be needed for some time at the range.

Midway USA has some good deals on range bags so long as you don't mind them also having the Midway USA logo on them.

The MidwayUSA brand bags are awesome. Very thick Cordura nylon, good zippers, thick padded strap. They are on sale right now. For $40 for the large one, you will not find a better bag. It was so nice, my friend bought one and I bought another for my father-in-law. The competition bag is BIG. It'll hold 4 guns easy (I've carried 5 or 6 in mine before) Bug outside pockets for tools and other items.

Just a great all around bag.

I've got the large Midway bag and it is awesome. Honestly hard to fill up. Mag holders, pockets galore, large removable insert, 2 large removable zipper pouches for pistols, brass bag with mesh bottom to shake out debris, etc, etc....all that at an excellent price. Highly recommended...look for the large bag around $40 and a demo video...

Depending on how much your willing to spend. May I suggest thte 5.11 "Range Qualifier." It is a great bag and keeps everything organized. There are 2 zippered and padded compartments and an area large enough for ear and eye protection as well as a few boxes of ammo. There is also a side compartment for 8 magazines. Lastly, there is another side compartment for whatever else you might think of. I own one and could not be happier with it. Hope this helps.

I have been using a backpack but now you guys got me thinking. It looks much easier to keep ammo in.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I think the wife has settled on the Midway one. Hard to compete with the price, now to get enough stuff to fill it up LOL

I am sorry I am a little late on the suggestions, I keep a tool bag from Lowes with the stapler, targets, extra earplugs/ ear muffs, nails, a hammer, a small first aid kit and a bottle of BreakFree CLP. It even has enough room to carry a small bucket to pick up brass in.

We haven't purchased one yet but I thought about stopping at the local Military Surplus store to see what they had. I like the fact that the Midway one had (from what I remember) pouches for two guns and a bag to pick brass up in.

I will have to look at the tool bags though, didn't think about that. Wonder if there is a larger version of the OD green one my dad had when I was a kid.

Sorta depends on how many guns you take. I tend to take 3 or 4 pistols at a time, so I need capacity.

I saw a pretty nice 4-pistol hard case at Dick's. Not too expensive. I actually considered buying a couple.

But for some time now, I've been using a couple of leather sample cases from Office Depot. You see a lot of lawyers carrying them. They're about 18" long by 15" high and 8.5" wide. They'll hold 2 or 3 large pistols in their clamshell plactic cases plus other miscellaneous paraphernalia. 2 top flaps open from each side and a stout handle sticks through a slot in the other top flap. divided into 3 compartments inside. The ones I have have the littlew wheels and a telescoping handle like computer bags you use at the airport. So you can set one on top of another, strap it onto the handle, and roll them both with one handle. I think I paid $20-$30 each for them. Plus, they don't look too bad sitting around the house, either - just a black leather case.

I have a big 5.11 bag and while its nice it is also kinda overpriced for what you get.

This looks cheap and crummy but I've been using it for over a year with no issues. Holds a few guns, ammo for each, and hearing protection for two people with no issues.
Not much room for cleaning gear except maybe a boresnake. But I never field strip and clean at the range anyway, so this bag is just right for me.

All my other misc. crap stays at home in my big 5.11 bag.

We went to a local surplus place and found a nice black canvas tool bag to use. We need to get a couple of cases for the handguns. $12 isnt bad at all and I am happy with it.

Has slots inside that can be used for mags, plenty of space for eye and ear protection. Probably good for two guns and ammo for a range trip. The wife said once we out grow it she will just get one of her own.

If I had to buy another one I would probably buy one form Ace Cases (http://www.acecase.com/pro-shooters-ran ... nylon.html). I have one of their rifle cases and one of their gun rugs and I really like them.

Both companies manufacture their products in the US which to me is a big plus.

Why dont you just forge your own?

As I stated in a previous posting. I have the 5.11 "Range Qualifier" and love it. This seems a near perfect match. However, the Ace big seems to have much more space. It holds 18 magazines where the 5.11 only holds 6. It's also $7.00 cheaper too. "Gotta get me one!!"

I have used this one for roughly 9 years and well over 400-500 range visits and travel, it has served me well. Canvas, no tearing or ripping, had one worn piece on the should strap resown after 7 years and it's as good as new today. 2 gun side pouch on one side and plenty of room for tools, ear pro etc.
Three interior pockets that each comfortably hold 8 magazines.
