Taking advantage of living in VA

Post by ArmedInNoVA »

Recent transplant to NoVA. Grew up in Up-state NY, and lived in Baltimore for the past 5 years. Quickly putting the "Very Armed" in VA and having a great time with it.

Let me know if any opportunities exist for meetups in the Fairfax area. Main interest right now is maximizing effectiveness with my Black Gun, as its my first.

Thanks all!

Welcome 'Armed In NoVA' (lifelong VA resident here - new to the forum myself though).

So...the question chomping at the bit is: What exactly is your "Black Gun", please?

Thanks in advance, and again, welcome here, and to VA.

Welcome aboard! We're having a meetup in May, although it's a few hours drive from Fairfax.

http://vagunforum.net/meet-and-greet/ti ... t7844.html

This is the only one currently scheduled, but I encourage members to put info out there for possible meetups in the "Meet and Greet" forum. Would like to see that forum start getting some mileage - i.e., "Hey guys, I'm headed to the NRA Range Friday at 4pm. Anyone interested in meeting for some VGOF camaraderie?"

Thanks Ambi - I opted for a Stag Model 3... I like the ability to customize the VRS system, but the only caution I would throw is that you have to order additional rails from the manufacturer, and they aren't so cheap. Lesson learned.

Looking forward to getting outside of the indoor range to test out my Troy Battle Sights with the 300-500m MOA adjustment.

Thanks for the invite and the tip Allingeneral!

Welcome! I'm looking to pick up an AR sometime soon and would love to hit an outdoor range together.

I know that Clark Bros is outdoor, but not sure what the distance is... does anyone else know?

What about Quantico? How tough is it to get on with a current member?

Maybe next year I'll take a harder look at Fairfax Rod & Gun...

To join Quantico you must be military or federal civilian or have one sponsor you. They run Quantico like a military range so unless you can coordinate a crew you are limited to open ranges. I was a member for one year and gave up since trap/skeet was the only scheduled event on most weekends...

+1

It's at the intersection of Rt17 and Rt29 (good ways south of I-66/Rt29)...given that there are no diagonal roads in that direction and traffic, it isn't a short trip for you. Everything else listed should be much closer for you. Clark also requires that you shoot their ammo. If you only shoot a box or two you may break even, but if you shoot more than it likely will cost more than just paying for range time.
