That's what happens with inflation.

I don't buy much from any of those companies - most of my stuff is imported - but the others will follow suit soon enough.

Gotta wonder if they;re riding the the Tuscon wave to pump up the bottom line now that Obama has opended his mouth about gun control..THe last wave has pretty well settled down and what better excuse to raise them again.... What's next? Shortages? Back Orders? Time will tell

On the upside of this epidemic about to happen, maybe some imports will give the American companies a challenge that would cause a favorable impact on prices for those who actually buy, shoot and reload these rounds. MAYBE. Looks like I'll be throwing my hat into the reloading arena real soon.

I'm guessing that these same factors will affect reloaders too. Let the hoarding begin.

I better get on the ball. The only ammo I buy is .22 and .22 mag, I reload the rest. I don't have but about 60 .22 mag and a little over 3700 .22. Look out walmart !

Other than picking up another dozen or two more bags of shot I _think_ I should be good to go for 15-20 years unless I start competing which is not likely with aging eyes and slowing reflexes so plinking/hunting should be covered. And I really, really don't want to have to move 500lbs or more of ammo when we retire.... [and NO, YOU CANNOT have it :hysterical: ]

Well I and many of you I'm sure will pay whatever price we have to for ammo, food, and gas...other stuff I can cut from my budget before those are jeopardized...besides, like many of you also I've got the ole hypothetical stash of ammo, brass, powder, primers, bullets, etc -- all at the bottom of a lake mind you -- that will last for me until about...oh retirement...

Out of curiosity, I dont know anything about reloading or ballistics other than bullets go boom and then go very fast, but could casings be made out of cheaper or alternative materials other than brass? Like plastic or aluminum?

Yes, but brass is ideal. It has the right properties for correctly sealing the chamber, etc. Brass wasn't chosen for its reloading characteristics, although that is a nice benefit.

Good read.

@Kreutz...aluminum is a popular casing material with some manufacturers...check out CCI...they make alot. Resulting ammo is cheaper but ya dont want to reuse the cases...Wolf uses steel in their's...same thing...cheaper ammo but unusable empties...brass is malleable and reusable but more expensive due to materials...

I don't have more than a box or two of any ammo for any of my guns. I keep a half loaded clip and the remainder of the box, or simply a box for those without clips, in each gun carry case. I might have one or two 30 cal ammo boxes filled with misc boxes/trays of rounds. When I go shooting I buy all the ammo for what I want to shoot and any excess at the end of the day gets added to the misc pile when I get home. I figure unless its a zombie apocalypse I can get more ammo off the guy who shot at me first.

See the diffrence between most of the people on this board is that y'all want to do everything by the law of the land if the ballon goes up and the Zombies start marching. Me I know where I will get extra ammo and food and any other supplies that me and my family need, I will take them from where ever I can get them or from whoever I can take them from. I won't profess to be a nice guy I ain't my family comes first and if I have to kill someone to ensure that my family has what it needs so be it.

Yep, I know that some of the people on this board will either think I am nut's or out there somewhere. But I have to tell you that if you can't take another's life to ensure that your family live's on then you become one of the Shepple and will be ground up in the battle to come. When and if it come's.
