I am going to the nra-hq range tonight and can only use 1/2 the hour I am going to pay for. Would anyone like to use the other 1/2 hour? PM me if you want it. Thanks!

I would like to be able to take you up on your offer, but unfortunately unable to do so. Hopefully some will be able to.

A question Sweetpea I've never been there, I am a member of the NRA and have been for years but just never got to go there. It might be worth a trip next time I'm in Northern Virginia.
Do you mind telling me what they charge for range time, and can I get that info off the net. I almost never shoot at a regular range it might be interesting. Does it get real crowded.

It's a very nice range! Clean and bright and friendly. NRA members pay $14/hour. There is a written test you must take the first time you go there but it is open book (they give you a range rules handout that has all the answers to the test). It can get crowded on the weekends (though even on weekends I've never really had to wait long to get in) but weekdays are not bad. Tonight, almost all lanes were full but I got right into a lane with no waiting. The target system is high tech and goes out 50 yards. And the museum upstairs is really interesting.

I've found the wait time depends on when you go, the time of the year, and the weather. This winter I've had over 2 hr wait times on a sat am. Now that the weather is nicer, and people are doing more things outside, they are a little less crowded. Lateley I've been getting there first thing sat am. When the doors open at 0830, theres easily 20+ people in line.
It is a very nice range, and well run. I did get yelled at one time by one of the ladies there. I was hurrying my son up in shooting what he had left, and we ran slightly over our 5 min warning. So when they give you your 5 min warning, start packing up!!!

Thanks for the info Sweetpea, it sounds pretty good, I saved the link. I was up in Fairfax a few months ago and will most likely be up there again. I thought about the NRA when I was there, I have to stop in and see what it's all about.

You have a good memory! Looking back, not sure if what I was offering was even going to be allowed by the range.
