Virginia Gun Owners Forum - VGOF

Hello all,

I am new to this forum and was hoping someone can help me out. I am a Navy Officer who recently moved to VA from MD. I have not changed my residency to VA and intend to keep my MD residency while I am stationed here. Because of this, I was wondering if someone could give me some guidance on whether I should register for a Non-resident CHP and provide my MD address or if I should register for a Resident permit and provide my VA address even though I do not hold a VA drivers license or any form of VA identification. I plan on living here for at least my first 2 tours (4 years) and depending on my situation, I might eventually change my residency status. Any advice would be much appreciated!

if you have orders here, get the resident permit.....

18.2-308 D

Any person 21 years of age or older may apply in writing to the clerk of the circuit court of the county or city in which he resides, or if he is a member of the United States Armed Forces, the county or city in which he is domiciled, for a five-year permit to carry a concealed handgun.

I would get the VA resident permit because the VA non-resident permit is not honored by Florida, South Carolina and Michigan (these states plus three other states do not honor non-resident permits).
