200+ yd. Rifle Range in central Va.?????

Post by cutun »

In talkin to a couple guys yesterday while shooting a round of sporting clays, we were talking/wondering if there are any long range rifle ranges around central Va..open to the public. Thinking about doing a pronghorn hunt and I know I need a little practice out to 200 yards

You talking about a 'real' range with benches and all the bells and whistles ? Or shooting off the hood of a truck ? I'm going to be working on some reloads in a couple of weeks so if shooting off a truck hood will work you can tag along.

300 yard range at Rivana Rifle and Pistol Club in Charlottesville. Could that be what they were talking about? http://www.rrpc.org/index.php

Dobn't need all the bells and whistles, just a good safe location inwhich I can hold steady and get a bit of practice at targets out to 200 yards and maybe 250. Want to feel comfortable if I need to make a long shot. I've killed ground hogs out that far, but that was with a 22-250 and a long time ago.

What about shooting in the national forest? I just moved here from Colorado, and I shot in the forest at any distance I wanted. I'm worried by the thought that I'll shoot no farther than 100 yards in VA.
