I'm thinking about purchasing a Rock River Arms (RRA) LAR-15 Tactical Operator online from RRA. I'm sure the info is somewhere on this site, but can anyone tell me what FFL owner in Northern VA, Fairfax County if possible can handle the transaction without hassle?

Finally what will it cost.

Btw what sight would you prefer for other than iron sights? The EO Tech Holographic sights, or some of the Red Dot sights?

Does anyone have a problem with RRA weapons?

Most FFLs will handle a transfer for between $30 and $50.

Last time I checked "NOVA Armament" had the cheapest transfers in the area at 25$ per transfer. They are in Herndon, VA.

As to the sites in question, EO halo sites are great for looks and CQB. For further distances, IMHO, a standard scope or iron sites are best. Not to mention the whole battery thing. Iron sites don't require battreries, and most good scopes don't require them either unless you have a rheostat setting and that doesn't have to be on except in low light situations. Either way Rock River Arms is a good manufacturer, I have lots of people tell me good things all the time. Price is a great motivator, the weight of their LAR15 is another. Enjoy it when you get it, load up on lots of ammo and check AIG Surplus Ammo out for great prices.

As someone who has used both on an M4, I prefer the red dot (aimpoint) to the holographic. No problem reaching out to 300 meters on a man-size target with the aimpoint and it shines at close in. For the distance shots turn it on the lowest level that you can see it, the more intense the dot the easier it is to miss.

For FFL transfers, I like Gary's Guns, and transfers. He's a lil' less in the fees, but does charge sales tax to make sure "The Man" doesn't come down on him.

FFL Transfer fees are not subject to VA sales tax, as far as I know. It should be the same as labor, which is not taxable.

I would be happy to help you, I am however in Berryville, which is a little outside of your ideal.

I charge $22.00 flat, and can add $10 for each additional gun in a single transaction. So if you buy two, price is $32.

No sales tax is charged unless I order in a firearm and sell it.

If you buy it online, or an auction etc, you are responsible for reporting it on your taxes every April 15th, which I am sure everyone does...

For the money I think Rock River is one of the best deals out there.

As far as sights, I like the ARMS 40L flip up and am partial to Aimpoint. I have Eotech but prefer just a single dot.

My preference for a AR carbine is the Aimpoint T1. Small and light.

This is my understanding as well.

If he's collecting sales tax, he's not supposed to - remittance is the responsibility of the purchaser (not that anyone actually does).
