This is something to keep an eye on for those who have a Utah permit.

Out-of-state gun owners seeking a concealed weapons permit in Utah would first have to obtain a license in their homes states, according to a bill approved Tuesday in a Senate committee.

I'm not worried. I dont see the changes as being that big of a deal.

Well there's that.

...and the whole bit about VA CHP holder's info being essentially public in VA. Not a problem with Utah permits.

This will put a hurtin on anyone from New Jersey with a Utah CCW permit. It is almost impossible to get a N.J. permit so I assume the Utah permit would become worthless unless the people that have one now get a grandfather clause.

For many of us here in VA a FL non resident permit is just as good as UT, especially if you keep to the Southeast...let em make their changes. IMO the UT permit is overblown anyway. Major differences are that SC only honors FL resident permit, does not honor a UT permit, but honors a VA permit. FL also only honors a UT resident permit. Only diff I can see between the two is if you go res VA/non-res FL you dont get WI...the FL might be a little more difficult to get but only a logistical issue and non-existent if you visit...

I've been saying the same about the FL permit. Considering AZ gets about the same reciprocity for 1/2 the cost.

As far as Utah requiring a home state permit, why would it matter to us as a training company?

If someone takes our Utah permit class, we already provide an extra certificate to them so that they can use the class to apply for their Virginia permit. We don't make any extra money off if it, so that is not a marketing angle to work. Most people obtain both permits to maximize the number of states that they can carry in. We do not charge students an extra fee for applying for Va and Utah.

As far as Utah lowering the initial permit fee but raising the renewal fee - that doesn't affect us either way.

I did not know that you also gave the paper work etc. as part of your class for a Va. permit at the completion of your Utah class.
