I got my permit last year, at my old address. I just moved to a house, in the same county. I sent my change of address form to the county court house. They have received it. Am I supposed to get a new one with my new address? It doesn't say on the county web site.

yes, you need an updated permit.

VA use to not allow you to change the address, but now you can. It isn't required by law, but it is a good idea. There are some states (PA I think) where it is a crime to carry with a permit which has an address different than your DL.

Getting an updated permit is totally up to you. It will cost $10 but your old permit will be just as valid with the old addesss.

Last year, I moved in the same county. Went to the County clerk's office and was told by the county clerk that as long as my DL was correct, I was OK. Not to change my CHP address until time for renewal.

You might have an issue if you plan on using your CHP as a second form of identification for gun purchase. Dealers like to see all matching addresses on forms of I.D.

No requirement in the law to get a new permit merely because you moved anywhere in VA...says the court may issue a new one...

This is why I wanted an updated address on mine. Otherwise, one handgun a month, which is obnoxious. I sent in the new address form along with a $10 money order, so I should be getting a new one, right?

I am sorry but I was in fact thinking about you carrying in another state and being stoped. If your CCW permit had one add. and your Driver Lic. had another you could run into a problem with law enforcement. You would be right but they would not know that untill they checked with someone in the state of Va. in the event that you were stoped by an asswipe LEO it could be a problem. The same as you can carry hollow point ammo in most states where your permit is ok, but if you carry hollow point ammo in the state of New Jersey you can and will go to jail.

Yep, forgot about that...and I carry in other states alot on my VA CHP... +1

Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I did get a new one with the new address.

Per VSP website they shall issue the new one.


The address on my Resident Concealed Handgun Permit is no longer correct. Is my permit still valid?
Yes, but you may request a replacement permit if you wish. The clerk of a circuit court that issued a valid concealed handgun permit shall, upon presentation of the valid permit and proof of a new address of residence by the permit holder, issue a replacement permit specifying the permit holder's new address.

May/shall...yes...my point was you the carrier are not required to notify an address change on your CHP.

Couldn't you just white-out the old address? (just kidding, i'm sure it's illegal)
