Hello From Texas

Hello Folks,
I will be leaving the Great State Of Texas in the comming months for a job relocation.
I have a couple questions.
Will my Saiga 7.62 be legal in the State? I have installed a Tapco stock with grip on it.
Also, I would like to get my Virginia CC permit, how long must I live in the State before I am able to? Also I see Virginia ia a open carry state, is that any type of handgun? Specifically, I have a S&W M&P with a 17 rd. mag, would I be able to carry that.
Thanks in avance for the replys.

The Saiga is perfectly legal. I don't know about the CC permit, I'm sure someone will. You can open carry any handgun without a license(over 18) as long as the magazine does not hold more that 20 rounds.

You have what, 30 days to change your DL? I don't recall any provision which made a special waiting period for CHPs concerning residency. I think you can apply as soon as you have your VA DL and a VA address. A few localities have a special provision banning the carry of magazines over 20 rounds without a CHP.

No waiting period to get a CHP as long as you satisfy the other requirements...and you can carry any legal pistol which are virtually any you can buy. No restrictions except for certain localities outlaw mags over 20 rounds - CHP holders exempted though.

It has been a few years since I've been in TX. Did they adopt silly regulations concerning what firearm you can CC?

Some states, like NM, make you qualify for a certain caliber to get your CHP and then you can only carry something up to that caliber but not over. Not sure about TX...

IIRC Texas has restrictions on the type of gun. If you qualify on the revolver then you can only carry a revolver, but if you quality on a auto then you can carry whatever you want. I guess they think people who like autos are smarter!
