Do you take guns on vacation?

Another thread made me think of this, but I didn't want to be a highjacker...
When I go on vacation I take, at the least, my carry gun, when legal. I like to visit different ranges, so often, I research whether a range is close to where we will be staying.
If our stay is at the beach, we bring all of our stuff for a fun time. Fishing rods for on the beach or pier, boards for the surf, flip-flops for walking the shops, etc. And I may have 5 or 6 guns with us for fun at the range.
A range trip on vacation is the same as going to play miniature golf or going to the arcade. We all have fun, talk about the "great shot" that someone made, and go for ice cream later.

I do when camping. I live in central VA but often camp out in the Blue Ridge Mountains, seems all the good public ranges are out in the western area of VA. I think it's because they use the mountains as a backstop. I always try to make it to the ranges out there and post a review here. I don't get to shoot outdoors or at long ranges often.

I don't take vacations as such, but when I travel overnight I do bring along some hardware.

I take one everywhere, even states where I can't carry it. I leave it locked up in the room and double up on what I do carry (legally) when out and about

Indeed. Another thing I take is something -- either electronic or printed -- so I know the laws for each state I'm in...good thing to do especially about the must notify crap. A VA CHP is good in NC but their laws are different - you must notify immediately. On the other hand a VA CHP is not valid in GA however if I understand their law it is legal to carry concealed in your car but not on your person without a permit.

Agreed with VBShooter... except when I have flown. After that one guy got arrested and JAILED for having a firearm in Romulus (or was it Newark) I have been a little [ahem] gun-shy.
When I drive - I try to know the law best I can and carry where [choke] "permitted" by law.

Last couple of road trips, at least one handgun came along. I carried holstered for most of one trip (except for one state, I was legal to CC), and in a lock box on the other trip (too many 'no-carry' states to justify holstering). Haven't done it flying yet, though.

Almost always, whether roadtrip or the unavoidable business air travel.

If I can carry I take my side arm. Usually when I'm visiting friends or family in other states they have guns I can shoot for fun.

I carry my guns everywhere it is legal to carry. Almost all of the states I have any reason to visit have recipriocity with Virginia. I have flown with mine and had no issues doing that. If a state doesn't then I will reconsider if I want to visit that state or not. Of course much depends on the reason for visiting. I pretty much refuse to go to liberal states that are anti-2nd Amendment. My family is from the south in strong 2nd Amendment states. I don't travel for work so that hasn't been an issue.

I was surpised how easy flying was with firearms, at least in Richmond/Phoenix. The two times I've done it the guns were not an issue. Even the machinegun went through without a word.
They were more interested in the book (AK47: The Grim Reaper) and the petrified wood sample I had in my checked bags. By "interested" I mean they opened things up to inspect them. Had to explain to the TSA guys in Phoenix how it works for locked cases with guns (no, fellas, I'm not going to commit a felony to make your lives a wee bit easier), but that wasn't a gun issue per se, as the aforementioned rock was in the case with the gun.

Every time I go visit family in TN from Norfolk I always take one. I have stopped at a few shady rest from time to time. Plus it is nice going to a free outside range too.
